I miss the original Skirmish, I want something similar in Legion; attack/defend with multiple stages.

"Gameplay" is vague since it doesn't mention specific elements you are talking about, and gameplay has been changing dramatically since before Uprising as well.

Skirmish 1.0 was amazing. As were maps that were more 'tiered' than mostly flat with small Skyrim type glitched terrain everywhere.
IMO; if CCP stuck with the Beta build, balanced weapons properly (ranges, optimal, DMG, etc), introduced all of the racial suits/weapons sooner, kept the old maps coupled with the new maps, kept Skirmish 1.0 and added the new Skirmish as a separate game mode (along with Ambush, Ambush OMS and Domination), kept Corp Battles (along with a Planetary Conquest system that wasn't so easily taken advantage of), fixed the nasty glitches from Beta, this game may have actually panned out properly. Instead they chose to listen to all of the terrible forum feedback and QQ. They had a much better foundation of a game back then. |

Oh man, those days were FUUUUUUUUUUNNNNNN! I kinda liked the beat of the background music too, now there's none.
I wish that type of skirmish was still around, not to mention the installation cannons. They actually looked superior to the current ones... The new ones look like an unfolded, 4 legged chair with a nerf gun on it... |

I played this
It was the only time the game was truly fun. Far better than todays build, more fast paced, tons of action.

Skirmish 1.0 was removed because it was unbalanced, and CCP decided that instead of trying to learn how to better balance their game, they'd just replace it with a hopelessly dumbed-down version of the game mode and pretend it never happened, hoping eventually we'd forget about it. Because we didn't, they intermittently dropped hints that they were working on bringing it back in a new form somehow, but nothing ever came of it, and now that Legion is coming, it will probably never see any existence outside of closed beta.
The wider field of view was changed in Uprising for a variety of reasons. Narrowing your vision allows the game to feel more fast-paced without having to actually BE any faster. Reducing how much of the world you can see at once also allowed CCP to add in more special effects and slightly improve texture resolution, because all they thought we cared about was graphics.
The loss of a varied colour palette to work with was presumably because someone at CCP noticed that all the popular FPS games these days have everything coloured in about the same shade of brown, so they thought mimicking that would be a good idea. Nobody's really sure on that one though. It just sort of happened along with a whole bunch of other really stupid ideas that made it into Uprising.
They also, in spite of claiming that Uprising's reduced field of view meant better draw distance, tied your draw distance to the range of the weapon you're using, so a Shotgunner has no hope of seeing someone at AR range 90% of the time, and vehicle draw distance seemed to be bugged, because sometimes players RIGHT NEXT TO YOUR TANK wouldn't be rendering, and other times you could see enemies FAAAR further in the distance than any weapon should be able to fire. Having consistent draw distance is STILL a work in progress 8 major updates and countless hotfixes later because of this "improvement". |
