It served its purpose, getting CCP up to speed on FPS design, balance, planetary conquest, economics, limited EVE integration, server load and map design. It also gave them insights into what the players want in the game by generating forum feedback. It was a free game so we helped with all these things. We helped them gather this data. Now it is time to kick things up a notch. CCP putting more resources into DUST will be throwing money and effort into the garbage. We might get balance tweaks but I doubt we get any more expansions, suits, equipment, vehicles or maps. If Valkyrie is free and on PS, watch out. It will run until they get similar data then be ported to PC also.
2. Legion will be on PC. There are design advantages to PC that aren't available on consoles. CCP can be more nimble with updates and tweaks. They will have test servers.
3. Legion will be on PC. It will almost certainly help with integration with the rest of the EVE universe.
4. All of CCPs successful games are set in the future and charge a subscription fee. Porting the game to PC allows them to charge a monthly subscription and not share it with Sony. I very much doubt that they will allow Legion to be free and integrate with EVE (which requires a subscription fee). Mark my words: you will eventually be paying a monthly subscription fee for Legion and Valkyrie (or whatever comes after Valkyrie).
5. People put a butt-load of effort and real-world cash into grinding SP in DUST. CCP is not sure how much SP, equipment, skills, AUR, ISK, vehicles, weapons and suits will be transferrable. This is in some ways understandable because it sounds like there will be a fairly hefty expansion to skill trees and weapons might become moddable. The types of suit and vehicle slots might be moddable. But why should we grind more if we are not sure what will transfer? Right now I still play the game because it is entertaining and I will continue to do so until it is no longer fun or the plug is pulled. But I'm not buying anything with real money.
6. The way they announced the change was surprising, brisk and cheesy. They had obviously been working on Legion for several months and they already have a workable version - which they showed off at Fan Fest.
7. They pushed AUR sales just before the announcement that Legion was going to be the future of ground combat in the EVE universe. That was so flipping greedy and cynical.
8. "Laser focus" means something different to CCP and the rest of us.
