I don't mind them being angry they have the right after all; not all of them can follow us to next gen.
I do mind the ones however is that think attacking other players and developers who are reaching out is an okay move.
In all fairness and honesty, this is a GAMING COMMUNITY! Hey guess what, I play chess too and there are rules for civility but you're also asking the same thing of this We call others "noobs", we endorse the "you got raped' adage, we even do the the whole "squat/kneel to look like your raping a player when you killed them". I mean really, what did you really expect?
Gamers can be reasoned with and befriended but trust is a huge issue for us and once its breached it takes ALOT to regain it. You can ask Sony how much they had to followup after the Anon hacks on their end how much they did a corporate shake-down to get back in a great position. And if you ask any of the console players here they were expecting ALOT back and they delivered at least within expectation and kept delivering to eventually overcome that gap.
You think WE'RE rough, Sony had it far worse and took it as a big critique overall of a lot that they do. You can say that the "black knights" like me are horrible, mean people but that's the community you're involved in. You'll find philosophy books from courses I taught in college and even a few oddities like graphic novels from Walking Dead, Maus and the like on my bookshelf. But once a lot of us hits the game community, we become iconic symbols of douchebaggery.
That's how it is and some of us and I'd say myself included, have been much more honest and logical in critiquing CCP; it's a bad move they did at Fanfest and I do feel a company has a general responsibility of not tripping over their own foot while walking down a staircase and they did just that. It all really begins with that honest self-evaluation of whether they started this right since day 1 and Fan Fest and if the answer is no, then you really have a glimpse of why gamers are up in arms about it.
Remember that video CEO pyrex made commented how we do take part of and celebrate the protostomping quite a bit? That's the community you're trying to talk to and if you get that much, then your expectations should really align with that as well. You can call me an @sshole for pointing that out but it's not like it's a far gem from the truth. I'm pretty sure if you sat down with any of these "black knights" in person we'd probably be really civil but on the forums, civility be damned! |

We knew that the end was near for Cmdr Shepherd, yet we played Mass Effect through to its very end. Because it was fun.
Dust is fun, just the way it is. Rattati will make it more fun.
Who cares if it might eventually end? We have it now and its free entertainment.
Why not play it? That is honestly not the point of Dust or mmo~themed games. Your standard game contains content that gets "consumed"; you play Metal Gear and you eventually get to the end. You can change the difficulty setting but, overall, the game dynamics and storyline is the same; there only so many finite number of endings and scenarios and you can achieve all of it if you choose to do so.
Games like Dust and mostly mmos for that matter run on content that gets consumed as well but has variables that essentially make that content infinite; different players = different outcomes. FPS games like Dust take and mmo's like EvE even take this a bit more extreme where the content only ends with the game universe ending. That's a dramatically different sequence versus your standard game really. GTA also achieved this at some level with the fact that most players admit to playing GTA for the sake of just doing random stuff in the game.
Players also woud've been happier if it were years from now but in a game with infinite consumables that would only end if the game universe ended or the servers were killed, a life span of under 2 years and only slightly beyond one is pretty bad |
