We're trying to work out what events we can feasibly run. Which of the previous events that we've run have you most enjoyed?
Caldari Prime.
Caldari Prime is super awesome. But I don't think players know quite how much resource it took to pull that off. As an example, I believe the custom skyboxes (the prettiness above your head!) takes several weeks of work to create.
Honestly, the Events system isn't where we want it to be right now. The process isn't automated at all at the moment and we're working on creating the tools to allow us to make custom events that hand out rewards in real-time. It sucks that you guys have to wait for the rewards to get handed out, but that's just the limitation of the system right now. Have a hug. <3
To elaborate as to what Saberwing is saying, I asked this question at Fanfest at the community panel.
Caldari Prime was an event that took place in (March? I think). Planning for that event? Started in November. It took resources from both Dust 514 and Eve Online development teams and there was a lot of planning attached to it because of how crazy of an event it was. EDIT: Bear in mind, they had to run special coding to set everyone to 'Suspect' in Eve for the giant free-for-all, had to have people role-playing some of the more important characters, provide in-game NPCs/players for storyline purposes... Dust side they had to create the battles, skybox, falling debris, etc. All for that one event.
To quote CCP Eterne, the minor little lore events were awesome but started to get really gamey in that "Mordu's Legion wants you to do this, Mordu's Legion wants you to do that" which can understandably get a little annoying if it's done too much.
Despite that, I still feel as though we should have -some- lore descriptions toward -some- of the events. Maybe every three months or so, so that we actually feel like we're having an impact but it's not so frequent that it's just boring.
The best events, of course, are the ones that don't require assets that will likely never be used again (like Caldari Prime's skybox and falling debris). It's much easier for the community team to jot up some description of events that are happening and just let it progress like a normal game.
Extra Credits (youtube channel) put it best with a scenario:
"You are a community manager. You have the opportunity to run an in-game event, you don't get to add any new assets to the game or any special coding done, but you are given two junior community managers to help you with the event. The event lasts a day, and starts in two weeks. What do you do?"
If you can answer that question, I'd say it's pretty likely that Saberwing/Logibro and the gang will consider it
