So I'm browsing FPS games on Steam hoping to hone my kb/m wushu, and they all have jetpacks. I tried a couple of them (Looking at you, PS2 and Tribes ) and it has got to be the most annoying, gun game ruining aspect of any shooter I've ever played. Seriously, CCP please, don't EVER introduce this.

Fix your scan precision, and if it's a Gal Scout, that's an entirely different problem.

That's a laugh. Most scouts are Gal, and they can't be seen by the best active scanners and they aren't fitted with profile dampeners. The rest have profile dampeners and can't be seen, and it doesn't matter how good your scan precision is. And the annoying ones come in groups. Even if you did see one, you're still going to be shot in the back.
A jet pack is a lot more obvious. It's like shooting a big red ballon. |

Try fitting precision enhancers as well as not being stupid.
The thread remains open to discuss jetpacks, NOT CLOAK QQ

I would not mind jet packs as long as it was only viable to fit it to assault suites. Just like cloaks on scouts.

Jetpacks wouldn't be broken if they were equipment and thus prevented you from using weapons while flying, and had a capacitor (similar to the Cloak Field).
Then Jetpacks would be more of a breaching/transportation tool, as opposed to an "I win" button. Though it would be pretty cool to have a Jetpack and MD combo.

Both Halo and Tribes have done jetpacks well. If you are referring to Tribes: Ascend, the entire game is built around skiing and jetpacks, so it's a different kind of shooter,
As others have said, jetpacks have been done well and can be done well such that they add to gameplay.
I'll take jetpacks over strafe-dancing anyday.

As you can see all I said was jetpacks would be better than a cloak, in response to you saying jetpacks would ruin the game. In my mind jetpacks would do less to ruin the game that cloaks. |

Jetpack would allow you to come from above. Unless your looking for it up in the sky, your not going to see it. Cloaks you have a chance to see while looking around normally

Given the jetpacks wouldn't give a profile dampening bonus, will make noise, and show up on the radar (possibly more so because of the heat signature), I find that very hard to believe. I can find a dropship before I even see it by the sound it makes alone.
You can't see cloakers unless your scan dB is higher than their profile dB, which means you have to have better scan precision. Cloakers are putting as much as they can to reduce their profile dB. You can't hear them until they're right on top of you. And most times they work in groups, so even if you do see one it's far too late. |

I can get behind jump packs, similar to how a starcraft 2 reapers function, but I'd probably be against jet packs as in a guy who can hover and shoot. That changes a lot in regards to level design.

I disagree w/OP. Jet packs rule. I can go all Boba Fett on a mofo in Planetside 2 and would LOVE to see this implemented eventually.
However, that weird sliding mechanic in Tribes would certainly feel out of place in Dust.

I support jetpacks, so long as maps are less flat.
This style of game could use more verticality. |
