I was originally going to post this in the World of Darkness cancellation thread, but I doubt the devs read that anymore.
Cutting to the chase: CCP should make a WoD (or just Vampire the Masquerade, to keep a tighter focus) game along the lines of Shadowrun Returns. Cheap 2D backgrounds, cheap effects mean that all the major (and some minor) clans and disciplines can be included for much less development time/expense as a triple-A MMO would require. Inclusion of an editor tool would allow CCP to forget the game after release and leave new content up to the fans; if the game had strong enough sales though, official DLC or sequels could of course be in order. Ideally, since CCP has more resources than Harebrained Schemes, I would expect a bit more overall quality than Shadowrun Returns; but even if it looked exactly the same, it'd be tolerable. To give the game more mass appeal, a co-op mode could be implemented as well (since it's all the rage now).
The advantages of this proposal are the following: some art and design concepts could be transferred from WoD Online, so all the preproduction work on it wouldn't be 100% wasted; secondly, and more importantly, White Wolf fans would be tossed a bone for all their immense patience over the last decade. Cancelling WoD Online and doing nothing further with the rights would be no less than a slap in the face to those fans; a boycottable offense if there ever was one. Beyond honor, principle, or any other notion laughed at by those with a business to run, there's more practical incentive as well: WoD fans are hard up. So much so that people are still playing and modding VtM: Bloodlines (ten years along), and some people are even working on a total overhaul of its graphics in an attempt to modernize it. This shows there's a demand out there; sufficient demand to warrant consideration of my proposal.
And if that's not incentive enough, the eternal enmity of goth poseurs everywhere should frighten you to no end. |

Apologies for this empty bump, but I want a dev to read this before it slips into the ether. I'll bump for maybe another day or two and then give up and never mention it again. |

As far as I know, the people trying to update Bloodlines have failed to get legal permission from either Activision or CCP, not based on any objections, but simply because no one will bother speaking to them.
Age of Empires and Age of Mythology both got graphics updates recently, so I don't know why VtM: Bloodlines shouldn't be able to as well.
Anyway though, while I'd love to see a real successor to VtM:B, I'm positive CCP has no intention of doing so. Hence my cheap-quick-and-dirty game idea as a compromise. Hell, if CCP wanted to be really cheap, they could Kickstart some of the development costs.

Yeah, CCP don't play dat. That is their problem. They over hype their abilities and yet they want to push the envelop. Would be nice if CCP could be realistic and reasonable. They'd be a lot bigger, better dompany.
Sadly, they are a one trick pony and will die as such. The best thing that can happen is that somebody else buys them out and develops the titles.

As I recall, Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines was just Fallout: New Vegas with vampires, I support the existence of that entirely.

I've always wished for a VtM game to be set in something like Arkham City's size and style. Imagine being perched on a building, searching for prey with Auspex, or stalking alleys with Obfuscate. And unlike sissy Batman, you won't have a no-kill policy after you pounce. |

Legions of Darkness?
World of Legions?
Darkness of Legion?
Darkness of Dust servers?
So many things to do with a dead product. And, since it was about vampires, dead fits in rather well.
I admire your enthusiasm. I doubt if anything connected to CCP is the right place to have such enthusiasm but to each their own.
Nobody at CCP cares because we ain't Legionnaires.

Nah CCP should sell the license or rights to an actual game developer. That way us fans of White Wolf can get another vampire game and CCP can recoup some of this past years operating losses and maybe some of what they will lose this year too. I just hope we don't have to wait for the CCP bankruptcy sale in a few years.

I don't expect everyone to like everything I'm interested in, but I also fail to see the point of spouting insipid insults in a thread I don't belong in.
As for your question, I don't like all vampires in all fiction; that would show poor taste, since so many are inferior. I do like World of Darkness vampires, because they can boil the blood in your veins and strangle you with your own shadow. Guess that's not really "coo" enough for a video game, really.

I agree, I have no hope; but it's still occasionally fun to let the imagination run. As for your game name combinations, that gave me an idea: sex up Legion by including WoD-type magic under the guise of pseudo-physics; sort of like what Mass Effect did. At least it wouldn't be just another shooter.
Cloaks? Obfuscate. Crowd Control? Dementation, Presence, or Domination. Scanning? Auspex. Rename the disciplines, give them to a special soldier class, like Psionic Adept or some such gibberish. The use of "magic" would give similar performance to technological counterparts, but also would have subtly different strengths/weaknesses.

I totally agree that another developer would be more suitable; but in my wishful thinking mode, I figure CCP could make a (low-budget, not MMO) game in a shorter amount of time than it'll take for them to dump the rights and for a new developer to start from scratch. My impatience supersedes my desire for a VtM:B successor, especially since I kind of doubt anyone's willing to invest a lot in a deep single player game for a somewhat niche audience. |

It was more... Shadowrun, or Deus Ex( the older) with vampires. But yeah this formula is nitro.
