Hara kiri and seppuki have some differences; keeping in mind that one was reserved for a "warrior"/samurai class [because technically samurai didn't exist in Japan well until the early 1600's actually] that the samurai could employ a second in seppuku where as in hara kiri the act itself was not limited by class but also implied you didn't also have a "second" as well.
Also unlike movies, a "second" was allowed to deliver the killing blow the second you reached and touched your weapon which meant you were saved the agony of attempting to cut your own stomach muscles which are some of the thickest in your body. If he hated you he could wait quite a while and make you suffer.
Why I wrote this at all, Idk, i'm bored and eating nachos  ...or maybe it was because i also used to teach premodern japanese history... |

I am aware of that.
Though it wasn't so common to cut the neck the moment you grabbed the knife, it only became common in the later years.
Also, something I found cool was that they would often cut the neck just right so a piece of skin would be left at the front, leaving your head attached.
I don't know why I find it amusing :3

Well you clearly love cats so I'll just say now that if you haven't then you should. Its based off a poem and the costumes and dancing is top notch but its also freaky as fk and repulsive at some points but that's just me.
