High end gameplay needs to allow players to take over planets that don't have attack timers. The only way to get a foothold on the planet it to have an EVE pilot transport you to the planet, either one clone at a time like a taxi ride, aka scout. This scout could be dropped off by a cloaked EVE ship. Then they could spend days getting intel on the planet.
From here, EVE pilots would deliver clone bays to the surface, assuming they make it to the planet. From there it is up to the Suits to do the ground work of assaulting or setting up a base. These bases could be literally hundreds of miles away from each other and need planet resources to build up, or a drop of resources from EVE side. This will add an RTS element to it, while making some super players able to just drop in as a squad and secure the base if they are that good.
That being said, the bases need to be able to be built up over a long time to be resilient to attack when people are not online to defend it at that moment. Automated defenses, actual computers that take hours to hack, via an equipment item that is deployed near key terminals. Automated message sensor sweeps that if tripped would alert the defending players of the attack. Yet if the assault team disables the sensors without tripping the system, the attack message would be delayed for a good long while. That 5 hour hack job could be a 5 hour long fire fight, or if you disable the systems in the right order without being noticed, then the 5 hour hack job would only have a 1 hour window that the defending players would know to respond to.
Every defense should scale up from a 5 minute attack up to a 12 hour brawl that could turn into a week long campaign to take a base if both sides keep being able to reinforce with the EVE side help. 5 minute attacks should only happen on super fresh installations that haven't finished building the advanced defenses yet. Thus, when you set down on a planet, you have to defend it for a while for it to be more safe. If you pick a spot that no one goes by, this would be easy for one person to look over the base while it is happening. But if you try to setup a base in a known high traffic sector, then there will sure to be major resistance to your incursion. |
