I'm still a little unclear on this one.
CCP Praetorian did make mention of 'Sandbox Areas' during his Fanfest presentation, but then went on to describe open-world resource gathering and PVP gameplay. He did briefly mention one day "planting a flag", but beyond that there really wasn't a whole lot on actually being able to make meaningful and persistent changes to the game world.
More recently on the forums these areas have been described as 'Wild PVP' areas, a lot of the discussion here seems to focus more on the shooter elements of this game than the sandbox elements.
Is it still the intention for Project Legion to become a 'sandbox shooter'? If so, what does sandbox mean to CCP? Which parts of the experience are they envisaging will be sandboxy? |

EVE: Legion is more sandboxy than DUST 514 ever was.

I don't mean to be rude, but I would appreciate it if you could qualify that statement.
I will agree that it looks set to be more open-world, but beyond that I'm still looking for more information. |

Here is a direct quote from the article you just linked:
Quote: An "open world" game does not necessarily imply a sandbox. In a true "sandbox", the player has tools to modify the world themselves and create how they play.[5]
If open world and sandbox were the same thing, then that would make World of Warcraft a sandbox game. |

Honestly... the first iteration of legion probably wont have much more than Dust in terms of sandbox game play (Planetary Conquest being the only form of sandbox game play in dust atm). Its the potential for better development down the road that makes it interesting.
Planetary Interaction in EVE would be the most obvious source of potential sandbox gameplay that I can think of. |

Dear lord, you're so mistaken I can't do anything but pity you.

Agreed, 'planting your flag' will most likely mean placing infrastructure in places that will then be fought over.
I can't really think how else they would make the game more open-ended other then the obvious i.e. player limitless battles. |
