Take it to 4 and stop there. Every time you skill into the 5th is the sum of 1 through 4 added together. It's very inefficient.
I would argue to keep it at 3 if you can spend that 300+sp elsewhere such as boosting your Armor, shields, CPU, PG, Biotics, or Dampening.
I ran an Adv Suit with a Adv weapon until I had every passive (core skill) boost to 4 or 5 with tons of success. I didn't go proto until over 13 mil SP (except for the weapon).

I am taking it to 4 this week. The aCR is my primary rifle.
On a more somber note, I was sad from all the fallout from Fanfest regarding our game. I have only been playing about 3 months and have enjoyed it immensely. I feel sad for the vets but jealous at the same time as they got to enjoy the game in a way that I cannot any longer. I'm always late to the party.
Anyway, about sharpshooter...worth going to 5? Honestly you're better off in a scout suit. Assaults are out matched in damage by commandos and out classed in maneuverability by scouts. An assault variant CR is best on a scout suit to get in kill and get out. Minmatar commandoes are great with the boundless and the damage boost but I think scouts with CR are great. And I only have prof 3, sharpshooter 3 and reload 3. You don't need anymore. Prof 4 with the fitting optimization skill at 3 would be nice but not necessary.
The Gal Assault get's a sick bonus toward "spray". I've been testing it out and my CR and ACR is far more impressive then I could imagine it would be. In addition, it has built in Armor Reps and tanks quite well.
The min assault gets additional clip size. If you run ACR then you are probably aware of how quickly you can run out of clip ammo. Having that extra 8 to 10 shots (like 12 to 14 at proto) can be the difference between being caught reloading or not.
I would argue that there is some viability to those two assault suits only. The rest I don't see any reason for them.
I will also tell you that I know someone with over 10 million SP that hasn't skilled into any suit at all and uses only MLT, Adv Weapons, and has his core up near max and is VERY good.
So running a MLT heavy with ADV HMG and other variants are more dangerous and far cheaper than people imagine.

The Gal assault bonus does not apply to CR or ACR
I have tested my findings and it appears to apply equally as much as my AR. I know it's not magic. And maybe it is a bug but I am sure it applies.
