In less than 48hrs I will be retiring from this game. I will most likely never log in again and even though some may not care I will tell you my story.
About a year and half ago I shattered 3 vertebrae in my spine from a car accident thus causing me to bed ridden and chair ridden for three months, rehabilitation for months to come. I was stuck in a body brace, unable to do much and with too much time on my hands I had to do something.
I searched the PS store and there I found Dust 514. I was able to join the close beta test and decided I had nothing else to do, so why not. As I healed I would play upwards of 12 hours a day, everyday, for the next year and half. To this day I have reminders of that accident, the body may heal but it will remind you of the past.
So where am I going with this? I invested a lot of time into this game and really believed that someday it would rival EVE and we the players that stuck with it would have something to be proud of. I felt the wind knocked out of me and felt betrayed at the same time when I found out about Legion.
I understand CCP can only go so far on the PS3, but there is the PS4 and they have had ample time to make a next gen sequel to dust on the PS4. Instead CCP chose to abandon the console market and work further on the PC.
If you think this was a spur of the moment deal with CCP choosing Legion over Dust you would be wrong. CCP already knew there plans did not involve a console-based game and have since quit all updates except server side.
I gave a lot of time to this game and if you knew me I was a bit of a try hard for I love to win, but the other reason I worked so hard was to push the game even harder. I wanted a great game and I wanted others to have a great time. I rarely ran proto and refused to attack a team stuck in there red line for the sake of the player base.
It was all for nothing. After amassing hundreds of millions of ISK and reaching 47 Million SP with over 40K kills I feel empty inside. CCP can promise that all our stuff will be transferred, but they also said Dust was a 10 year project, so you decide.
I am not going to bash anyone our blame anyone. I am going to take what I have learned from this experience and never invest in another game like I did Dust ever again. CCP you have said that Legion is far off and Dust will live on, how long you will not say?
So why did I decide to quit? I decided to quit the moment I read what CCP had done to the fans that went to fan fest. Sure the game had some issues, ok a lot of issues, but I still would have supported CCP. What they did to their player base was despicable and that is why I can no longer respect CCP as a company.
I am not ranting just saying goodbye to all and I am going to miss it a lot. So who ever is left, please remember to turn off all the lights when you leave.
