Wow. It was like I just came out of the academy. Iv done well with mouse and keybord in half life 2, but Dust 514... The match was a team of noobs and I VS protostompers, I would of done a lot better if I was useing a controller. Is it just a muscle memory thing, or am I generally bad at mouse and keybord? Anyone have any helpfull advice?

This is why I LOL at people saying that KB/M is easy mode.
Like killing tanks? Run AV Commandos? Good Shot w/Forges?

Because outside of a game that doesn't restrict the KB/M it's a far superior input in every way. |

I recently started using KB/M and aside from some bizarre control choices (like having Caps Lock for the equipment wheel and Tab for the playerlist, which is probably one of the stupider things I've encountered in recent memory) it seems fine to me. I prefer it.

It's generally bad mouse and keyboard support. Back in Chromosome it was actually pretty good but then Uprising hit and it just went to crap. To be fair though it's a lot better now than it was right after Uprising where my aim felt like it was being pushed away from the people I was trying to shoot and the radial menu was impossible to use unless what you wanted wasn't in a diagonal position. I had to switch to the DS3 to perform at a similar level as I did with the KB/M back in Chrome. I try it out after each update but after each update it still feels like crap to me.
Helpful hint: Go back to the DS3
Can't say I'm all that surprised.

Kbm is always inferior to a controller. that's why we have controllers on consoles instead of using kbm by default.
The only people who are in favor of kbm are people who use aimbots and lie.

No KBM is just poorly implemented on Dust. If it were given raw input then KBM would be superior. |

Before Dust the last time I used a controller to play a game was when the super nintendo was a thing, but I've recently stopped using only kb/m in Dust. It's way too difficult to track targets with the mouse, there's something unpredictable about how the aim reacts at short to medium distances. Now I use the mouse when I'm doing logistics stuff or sprinting around, but if I want to kill someone I switch to the controller. Unless I'm using the mass driver, then the mouse is fine.
Only problem is sometimes after I pick up the controller it takes 10 seconds before the right stick actually works, so I have to plan the switch well in advance.

When i switch the right stick will not turn left but by going all the way to the right then back left it restores full functionality.

1) If you want a optimal experience with M&Kb, make sure your mouse has or is set to a polling rate of 100-125Hz. Anything higher will over report & reduce your effective DPI.
2) Mouse aiming is inferior to DS3 w/ AA in Dust on all aim assisted weapons. Sniping & CQC knifing works best with mouse, anything else DS3 input is better, as far as infantry is concerned. |
