Spec Ops: The Line is my all time favorite game. It is beautiful, poignant, and just amazing in every way. I cannot believe they had the balls to go where they went, made a great message about war, humanity, and... well, you gotta play to figure that out. All without being preachy. That said, the game ain't fun. It is a slog to sit through, you will feel more and more depressed playing it, the shooting mechanics are dated, the enemies are mostly boring, it is not an experience that you play in order for some lighthearted smiles and joy. EVE is the same way. It is slow, methodical, brutal, immersive, and powerful but there isn't much fun to be had in it. It is not that kind of game, just like Spec Ops: The Line is not that kind of game.
DUST 514 is that kind of game though. You have the elements of EVE like fitting and death being detrimental to your wallet rather than your character's experience. But it is still a basic shooter where you run around, shoot the bad guys, heal your dudes, and hack the Letter A. It is the reason why Friendly Fire is off in public matches and only on for PC and Faction Warfare. Even if you are not interested in the deeper EVE-like things, you can still grab a gun and go shoot the bad guy!
This is in no way true in EVE. The only thing you will find of this level is RvB where the two sides exist only to fight each other with specific rules and regulations. EVE PvP is more "we have more dudes than you do" type thing.
I like EVE. I love that it exists. However, the game is not fun. Fun is what I am after when I play a FPS. I do like the cost aspect of DUST as it means each death has some kind of cost; it makes it more intense even if it is just a superficial type thing. If Legion becomes a thing, make it what DUST was promised to be but don't cut out fun because it doesn't fit in New Eden.
The problem with this is that fun is subjective. Many people find Eve fun. The fact that you don't, just means that you don't like it. It doesn't mean they are wrong.
So what you should be advocating for here is diversity in playstyle and game parameters. That way, you can have your fun, and others can have theirs as well.
