I gave CCP my email and they gave me a beta code.
It was a simpler time. Skirmish was different. The Creodron Breach AR was the sh-t. The swarm launcher was an anti-infantry weapon. Stairs basically broke the game, and the game would freeze every other match. Good times.

Sent in an email
Got a beta code
Heavies seemed to have 5,000HP
all ARs had the ADS of a sniper rifle
EVERYONE was a noob
FPS would drop as low as 5 all match
Latency was so bad the guy next door could never even hit you
But it was brilliant
A hope
A future of something new
Something now old

Started in June 2012 before Merc Packs were introduced server was only available certain times. ML Tank's owned the field. Skirmish 1.0 was better than it is now. Spawns in skirmish were in fixed location's at each letter, you could also spawn on them after they were hacked by a red till they flipped. Btw many a marsh-mellow was roasted round the campfires during this time. |

I acquired entry by getting a code through EVE online stuff.
It was pretty different. The 'feel' of the game was vastly different - without aim assist and with poor hit detection you had to be straight on target to do damage. Bunny hopping was an exceptionally effective tactic, and if both players involved in a fight could strafe it could take more than a clip to kill them.
There were 'camera sights' where when you ADSed it was basically like a sniper scope.
Forge guns sometimes fired LAVs.
We had more vehicles, like Suryas, Sagarises, Chakrams, and I forget the name of the other HAV. It was a 'black ops' one.
There was an 'experimental sniper rifle' with bullet drop. It was insanely glitchy though. The shots exploded or something.
Missiles used to incinerate vast swathes of the battlefield every time they were fired. Some people got 100+ kill games by sitting on a tower and pointing missiles at enemy spawn points.
(this is more a Chromosome feature tbh) we had loads more suits of each type, so there were A-series, B-series, Type-Is, Type-IIs, Vk.1s, Vk.0s. They all had little things to differentiate them - for example, the Calassault B-series was more shield focused than the Type-I.
Grenades at one point had like two second fuse times so there'd be no time to dodge them.
Heavies used to have ludicrous amounts of HP. There used to be base HP differences between tiers of suit. There was a larger gap between the DPS values of each tier of weapons. There was no stacking penalty, so you could get a Duvolle to hit over 60 damage per shot. You got officer weapons in batches of 5 and 10 in salvage.
Good times.

Velociraptor antirrhopus wrote:how did you get in? did CCP pick you from Eve or something? On the official site for the game, there was a page to register for a chance at a beta key. Random email addresses had keys sent out. EVE players had an option to register for a DUST beta code as well, but as a non-EVE player, I missed that. At a certain point, EVERYONE who had registered for a code had them sent out.
Up until the codes were sent out to everyone, access was only on a week-by-week basis, but throughout the beta, Merc Packs would give players full access to the beta when the servers were online (they didn't run the beta every day, it was just over weekends at first). |

I then played and it was so bad I could barely move, the game kept freezing, my guy got stuck jumping, crouching etc. I know it was a closed beta but WOW, I have never uninstalled a game quicker!

got mine thru eve. still have the emails:
"Congratulations You are now officially part of the DUST 514Gäó closed beta, which means you are moments away from creating your first soldier in the EVE universe GÇô your first Immortal.
As you prepare to storm the battlefield, we encourage you to download the DUST 514 game manual and browse through the customization and gameplay features that you're about to dive into. Arming yourself with knowledge of your options (and of your enemy) is the single greatest advantage in any wartime scenario. We also recommend all new Immortals visit the game forums at http://forums.dust514.com for the latest updates and to get involved in team discussions in preparation for war.
Getting started: The Immortal you create will be automatically assigned to one of the eight NPC corporations (guilds) currently competing in the DUST 514 closed beta.
In this phase of testing, you will be helping by playing and giving us feedback on two basic game modes: Ambush and Skirmish.
The Ambush game mode is similar to team deathmatch, where the goal is simply to kill as many members of the opposing team as you can, as often as you can.
The Skirmish game mode is mission driven, where your team will be given an objective to capture or defend strategic points in order to claim victory.
You can access the two game modes from the Battle Finder in game. The Battle Finder has two types of conflicts available: Battle Moon and Corp Battles.
Battle Moon matches are designed for players looking to quickly get into a match and play. There are no long term commitments involved.
Corp Battles are matches that are fought on behalf of the eight NPC corporations, and winning or losing these matches can affect the outcome of a greater war or engagement.
NOTE: The DUST 514 closed beta program is a private test of a work in progress. It is not a final product, nor is it indicative of final performance, frame rate, effects, or feature set. Please remember that if you choose to participate, everything associated with this test is confidential and may not be discussed outside of the DUST 514 closed beta forums. Your participation in the DUST 514 closed beta program is always subject to theEULA and Confidentiality Agreement.
Thank you.
The DUST 514 Team"
As you can see the Beta project is still somewhat on going, but kudos for trying and the last part they where strict about it, no talking about fight club. |

It looks like you are trying to claim a DUST Closed Beta access code. Those codes are obsolete and you can safely discard them. A valid DUST code is 25 characters long and starts with an uppercase D.

Actually the first batch went to ps3 testers (mostly mag, Socom, uncharted testers) how do you think cbj, quick gloves, and the rest of the STB, PRO crowd beat the eve tards here. I had my code by April 20 and didn't see an fanfest or eve player until may.

all the self-proclaimed pros on this game are hilarious. "we are masters of tactics, the most skilled, our **** doesn't stink"
but if I sat you down and played any other game against you I'd whip your sorry ass. they think that having ISK and power makes them better and it doesn't.
all being good at games takes is sheer effort and time. Someone who's been playing games since Super Mario World came out is going to do better than a bunch of guys who just got home from the overseas military and decided to pick up video gaming for the first time. No offense or anything, but just because you know weapons and tactics doesn't mean you know video games.
and the difference between the people who run around bragging saying they're the best FPS players ever because they're from MAG or something and me, is that I don't brag about it and I'm still just as good as them if not better |
