just to be clear i won't play dust on the PC even though I have a gaming PC. but i wanted to know what will happen when all the problems that exist on the PS3 version of dust end up on the PC version? would it be clear that it wasn't the hardware/software, but the people making the game?
If that was the case how would this move be perceived by the boss of CCP and other compaines? moving to a different only to have the same problems.

I imagine they'd cross that bridge when they get there.
Unless you know where to pick up Crystal Ball Proficiency V, that is.

The goal would be to not have any of the 'same problems'. We're working pretty hard on creating an awesome new game and I have total faith in my bros in Shanghai.
Edit: I'll just qualify this by saying that we will likely have our fair share of issues, but we'll work through them with you guys and hopefully come out with something kickass as a result.

please note i am done berating CCP publicly. No good is going to come of it.
But saberwing please remember, the biggest reason why dust514 did not succeed on the ps3 was not because of outdated equipment. it failed because the devs did not accept constructive criticism. example would be when we would ask for weapon balance and get blanket nerf, even though the majority of us asked to not have a blanket nerf. if this game had balance it would have made the gameplay fun and i wouldn't have quit months ago.

Balancing is problematic because Sony has to approve all updates to the game which meant quick feedback loops were impossible.
Also the PS3 is difficult for develops in that it has limited memory (500mb....not even a 1GB of memory) and the Processors Structure is hard to work with compared to those in PC's (which are also now in PS4's and XBones) |

A dev blog a week before release when content has already been locked is not "work through them with you guys".

Meh, I guess you are an expert at game design then. I suggest you make your own games, because if you are the first person in the world who has figured out how to make all players happy and achieve perfect balance, you are bound to become a millionaire.
It's just tiresome to read the same things over and over in every single god-damn multiplayer game forum. I really wish more people would understand how freakin hard this job actually is.
Besides, if balance would really have been DUST's primary issue, it would have done a hundred times better than it actually did. Few reviewers even got to the part where balance would be a factor. Good games have balance issues too, most people just don't care because those games manage to be enjoyable despite those issues. Ultimately, core mechanics are everything. |

i wouldn't say i'm an expert but I do teach gaming, mainly the unreal engine.. I am pretty good at knowing at what makes a game decent. i also know how much work goes into making a game.
you need the core mechanics, and balance. you cannot please all players, but if the majority of your playerbase is making their opinions known everyday to you for 3 months, you don't simply do the opposite of what they are telling you.
Truth is unbalance makes games bland and stagnant. diversity is needed if a game plans on thriving in todays market. It's the main reason all the big name FPSs have to constantly make a new product every year. why nerf if you can just sell another game?

I would say the answer to balance was in the forums from the word "go". so many good suggestions, so many charts, all that effort other players put in and all we got was a blanket nerf. either it was laziness or incompetence.
