DUST was always meant to outlast the PS3.
It was meant to go next-gen in some form, PC, PS4, whatever.
Why do we need a new game instead of a new build for DUST that moves to PC with all the new content as had always been the plan. It's perfectly reasonable for people to be arguing that Legion isn't a new game because all you're doing is what DUST was meant to be doing in the first place, except that you're telling us it's not DUST.
The only difference between creating Legion and creating a new build of DUST on PC is that there's no continuation of the support the PS3 version should be getting as we move forward, and no solid assurance that our progress in DUST will be retained properly. New content - at least in limited capacity - should be coming to DUST on PS3, and Legion should be taking that content and using it in different ways because it's a very major change from how DUST currently works. NOT a major change from how DUST works, because it should still be DUST.
Nobody is saying that a new build for DUST can't be made from the ground up, which is what Legion is doing. Nobody who's being rational about things is saying that the majority of focus should still be on the PS3 version of the game. Limited support for the PS3 client, but STILL SOME PROGRESS
I don't understand why this is being promoted as NOT being what it really should be. |

No, I think they call it Legion because they want to differentiate the two games even if Dust and Legion are practically the same. Perhaps to make it less confusing for some? |

My understanding is that Dust514 is a Playstation exclusive, meaning it can't go to PC at all. If I am right, this is why the new game has a new name. It could have been moved to PS4, however, I think the CCP realized it's strengths are really for designing PC games, not console games (at least for the present). |

That is a very good point. Didn't consider that angle, so thank you for bringing that up. :)

I could easily be wrong of course - this is what I had been told a looooooooooooong time ago in the closed beta and I've slept some since then...

Besides any legal issues, a rewrite of the core mechanics that plagued dust might be in order. As they are going to keep dust going, at least for now, they would need to name the game something else as they work on it. And possibly it won't technically be dust successor, so calling it Dust 514 2 is confusing. Easier to start from scratch, fix the stuff that never worked, keep what does, and rebrand. |

I honestly expected this thread to devolve into looking like a troll thread...
Not that it was my intention, mind you. I was hoping to get mature and well-reasoned answers, but I didn't think it would actually happen (I may be turning into a bitter forum vet).
Thanks for a pleasant surprise guys! |

No but it is still a strong part of the lore still.

That won't help as they plan to literally reuse all the art and texture of dust in legion.
DUST is not dead yet. But it soon will be.

Personally I think CCP thinks they need to move away from casual face-shooting and rather towards hardcore-gamers. Those specimen can be found on PC in spades but are tough to come by on an aging console. That, in my opinion, explains the platform change, the name change and many of the vision updates communicated at Fanfest. |
