As I look over the idea for salvage in Legion, I am kinda disappointed.
While its awesome that we would have to do a thing to get salvage, I would hope the industry segment of EVE gets involved.
Let us manufacture our gear, as opposed to picking up used armor and the like.
I remember somebody talking about a "EVE United" thing, so, what should stop me from playing EVE, and mining some roids to get minerals for my Armored Combat Suits, and have my character then manufacture some dropsuits for me to sell, or keep. Or I could buy some minerals from a capsuleer and manufacture them myself (after getting them to me, of course. Thanks courier contracts!), and then sell them or keep them
Since were on PC, its easier to do that, because I don't have to jump over to my PC, and then jump to my PS3, and so on. It can all be consolidated to maybe even a single program, and my EVE ship being a shuttle for me and my shipless cousins, and the like. Being able to switch in real time between providing OB support, to going down and landing on the planet and unloading a squad of guys, with my ship as a new respawn point for the squad.
Sounds cool. And, since Legion is on PC, its much more feasible, because Like I said, It COULD all be consolidated into one, with a seamless switch from mode to mode.
Because you wanted to be something you're not.

I agree.
I also wonder why everyone has completely forgotten about planetside infrastructure, I couldn't find a mention of it anywhere this year.
We have PLANETS. Said planets involve Lots and Lots of room for facilities and infrastructure. Planets hold MATERIALS. Mining these materials gives us the resources for Infrastructure and Factories to use. Etcetera Etcetera.
The reason EVE: Online doesn't deal with this (much, but PI only exists for the reason of giving planets usefulness which is now outdated) is because it was never feasible to put spaceships on planets, it was always easier to stick their resources in asteroid belts and their factories in stations.
The current economic plans for Legion involves post-battle Battlefield Salvage. This is ideal for solo-ists, newbies or people who don't care about industry. Battlefield Salvage is basically stealing all the salvage that the Reclaimer drones who are supposed to be salvaging, which is why the reclaimers shoot at you driving a soft riskvreward.
However, you also need to figure out where the Reclaimers are taking all their salvage, and who built everything in the first place. Just as it isn't feasible to bring space-based operations planetside and back into orbit for economic reasons, planetside operations shouldn't need to bring things in from space to be able to function on a daily basis.
I seem to have gone overboard.

Good day.
Moron.
TL:DR (and original purpose of post), Spacers can keep their bloody asteroids, Planets have their OWN rocks to play with. |

Honestly, I can't help but wonder how a political meta will form if the big corps have nothing to fight over.
Salvage is great for the small fries.... But will it really be enough to feed an alliance?

Only planets in low and 0.0 space have the necessary ingredients for high tier gear, so big corps want to secure said mining facilities (which mine w/o need of a person doing that, but slower then a human could)giving them a reason to bother with holding it besides "lulz free money"

Just plopping down a bunch of isk printing districts like we did last time will just lead to the same outcome as last time.
There needs to be more depth to the system.

The way I see it, a new supply of new resources matching new demands for said resources makes the most sense.
You could mine Planetary minerals right out of a Mining District, then send it off to a Factory District or somesuch or sell said minerals on the EVE Market. You can't saturate the market with all those resources because those resources are new and nobody else has them.
Plus it would be cool to add DUST resources as a requirement for certain EVE things, improve the EVE-DUST link. |

As much as I like the idea of roaming open world area scavenging the leftovers of battles...I'd really love some manufacturing, especially if it could be done in Legion *and* Eve. The resource cycle in Eve is a big reason why I got into it, and making isk by trading things to other players was always satisfying because it involved more thought. Figuring out what is needed, where it is needed and the most efficient way of getting it. There are always lots of players willing to pay a premium for convenience.
Salvaging stuff off of bodies and drones through exploration sort of does that, but I really like the idea of an Eve character buying a pile of scrap from a mercenary and building vehicles and weapons out of it then delivering it to planets where they're needed. Alternatively an Eve district with an appropriate factory could do the same job.

The resources should be something both sides need, like tritanium in EVE. Jacking up the price to screw the ground apes would hurt the EVE side as much (If not more) then the ape lives your trieing to ruin.
Let's keep the cross game resources limited to high tier gear though, k?
Just imagine if your AR your shooting needs a bit from an asteroid in space. Let's make them involved, but let them have the option to be self-sufficient if using all tech one us their fancy.
Because you wanted to be something you're not.
