Don't know if they've updated the description on PSN, but here's what it says on the PS3 website:
Quote:DUST 514-« Overview
DUST 514 is a free-to-play massively multiplayer first-person shooter set in the notorious sci-fi universe of EVE Online. Become an immortal mercenary, build an empire, wage war on a galactic scale and change the galaxy of New Eden forever. With endless customization option and deep gameplay that rewards team interaction, DUST 514 offers ever-changing FPS action and a constantly evolving challenge.
Massive Persistent Universe: Wage war on the surfaces of far-flung planets with countless environmental combinations. Planetary Conquest: Marshal your forces in a continuous, ever-changing battle to conquer the worlds of New Eden and control their resources. Large-scale Warfare: Vie for control of unique sci-fi battlefields with up to 32 players in simultaneous combat. Endless Customization: Create custom mercenaries with lethal dropsuits, skills and weapons. Vehicles On-demand: Acquire, outfit and deploy heavily armed and armored vehicles, on land and in the skies. Social Sandbox: Build a formidable corporation with thousands of players as you seize the opportunities and bounties that come with galactic conflict. Connected Experience: For the first time ever, join forces in a cross-platform gaming experience with the immortal starship pilots of EVE Online to conquer New Eden, one skirmish at a time.
Did you get what you paid for/downloaded for free? Yes. Is the game still running for an extended period of time? Yes. Do they have any plans on shutting it down? Not even remotely.
Then why are you people whining? YOU chose to come on the forum. YOU chose to buy into CCP's promotions and announcements. YOU chose to pay money for a free-to-play game.
YOU are NOT entitled to the constant R&D of a game. Most video games are sold as hard, physical copies with little to no updates. You people have taken CCP's hard work for granted and now you are raising Hell about how CCP "created a PR nightmare." Maybe if you weren't so emotionally involved with a GAME and had realistic expectations you might not have believed every little thing CCP promised you. And let's be real here, a "10 year plan" is the most bogus, unrealistic expectation you could possibly have.
I am happy that Dust is not being removed from the PS3 any time soon. I'm not exactly thrilled that CCP has dismissed putting Legion on the PS4, but I recently realized that Valkyrie is a spaceship FPS that will be on PS4, so I'm a little relieved that they're not being completely foolish and are actually staying in the console market.
Dust isn't worthless now, it's not dead. Most of my in-game friends and most of the people who have a BACKBONE are still playing it because they realize that all their hard work the past year has not been taken away from them quite yet.
It's still online. It's not going anywhere.

At least Legion has a hope of being what that quote describes, God knows DUST couldn't hold a candle to that lol.

Some of the grandiose words like "endless" and "constantly changing, evolving" are a bit false, and this entire sentence: Connected Experience: For the first time ever, join forces in a cross-platform gaming experience with the immortal starship pilots of EVE Online to conquer New Eden, one skirmish at a time.
But everything else is as described.

But, that's why I support Legion, because it has the potential to realize that vision. Definitely looking forward to the future.

It's a video game. Take a chill pill. Either it succeeds and we have the game we were sold on, or it flops, and we move on to brighter pastures. In the meantime, you're plenty welcome to play DUST, since the servers won't be shut down anytime soon.

You quoted what Sony said about the game. I don't hear a lot of complaints about Sony lying, CCP on the other hand...
The only thing I am mad about is the dickish way this was handled. I've gotten more than my money's worth from this game and I'll be sticking around awhile, I'll even by a booster or two. I am sad that there is no future in the game though and that I won't get a chance to play against players at its prime. I will say that I still see quite a few people around that said tjey would quit.
Because, that's why.

I actually wanted it to be on PS4 as well as PC. What I meant by that comment is it gets under my skin that - pro Legion or anti Legion - everyone is saying Dust is a lost cause. Well it's not.

Look at what consoles have done.
I love consoles, but to even hope to do what CCP wanted, it NEEDED to be on PC, for the experience CCP has, and for the general flexibility that PC has.
Because you wanted to be something you're not.

Will you anti-Dust people stop spewing childish insults and actually make a logical point for once?
I have yet to see any of you address the fact that your expectation - for Dust to be slaved away at by CCP even though they're probably not even profiting off it anymore and the game is essentially complete - is unrealistic.
Most gamers don't play a game specifically to be catered to by expecting it to constantly be updated and improved. Dust is just like any other game now - a permanent, final rendition that can only be continued by sequels - not patches.
I guess there might be a lot of MMORPGs that are patched all the time, but let's be frank here, it's more of a MMOFPS.

Many of us played this game due to its potential - without that I would probably have quit a week after launch, cause it was and still is a sub par game, performance wise, this point can't be disputed IMO.
Then a year later I get told that the Dust development will be slowed down to a point where many of the game's key selling features never will come. "No potential fullfilling stuff" to look foreward too so to speak.
This leaves a vaccume, its no point for me to keep playing, Dust will most likely only get marginally better, and thats not a good enough motivation to keep playing it. The game in its current state is still bland at best, I can't see a single thing with the actual gameplay being noteworthy, or on any level better than any other modern shooter, normally they fall short compared most AAA games. (I played KZ for a couple of hours on the PS4 and I was amazed just by the shear fact that I had no variable input latency, so much better to play, its like going from a bumpy Jeep to a smooth Cadilac...)
And no, playing Legion is not an option, perhaps on the PS4, but I'm not willing to grind in Dust for another 2 years or so on the off chance that it (legion) will come to the PS4 and actually be a good game.
And I don't care about the OP that much. I come from MAG, in my eyes and most players coming from that game Dust has been nothing but a dissapointment patch after patch, but we are still here, we always hoped the next patch would make the game a little better. At some point though it got too much for most, just look at all the MAG players that's left so far, the promise of only marginal continued support for Dust was for me the famous nail to shut the coffin. In a way, I'm glad, its made leaving Dust an easy affair.
So me and many like me do the most natural of things, we go and buy a PS4 - and start playing Quality Games!
I can't be bothered to ask for a refund or anything like that, SoonTM I will be gone, I will set some stuff in order first. (Like a clan forums page outside of CCP's sides, some isk transfers etc) And use my trolling time to dissrespect CCP as they did me, not constructive but strangely fullfilling.
Hope that was intelligent enough for you.
FU and FU Dust community, you're mostly a bunch of moronic carebear crybabies. Get good.

John Demonsbane wrote:See, here's the problem with comparing Dust to other games. You can't. You're also oversimplifying things.
Point 1: CoD/BF/etc are marketed exactly as they are. Buy game, turn on, shoot people in the face. Rinse and repeat next year with some new stuff. Everyone knows and expects this.
Dust was marketed as an evolving game (seriously, read the f*cking description you posted in your own thread for chrissake) with a "persistent universe" and "ever-changing battle". New game modes, weapons, player markets, have been promised to us for over a year, like a carrot on a string.
None were delivered, all while aurum sales were simultaneously pimped, even harder than usual for the past 2 months (you can NOT honestly think that's a coincidence).
Point 2: Perhaps more importantly, if all the stuff we were promised is going to another game (that I'm not going to play because it's on PC) why would I keep playing an unfinished game? That makes no sense!
If I had played Dust for the first time and been told then that most development resources were not being devoted to this game, and that we would never have a market, or PvE, or whatever. Guess what? I wouldn't have kept playing because the game is just not that good in it's present state
CCP can do whatever the f*ck they want with their own intellectual property, that's their right as a business. Misleading us isn't. Neither is a total lack of contrition after horribly handling this whole mess.
As a gamer, I think their decision is lame and don't like it. Whatever. I'm going to go play a better game.
As a consumer, my opinion is that I did not get what I pay for. I think they run their business poorly and don't give 2 sh*ts about their customers. So, I choose to no longer do business with them.
Please note the difference between those two things. Now add them together and you get what you see on the forums. Some people express their displeasure more vigorously than others, but, I mean, this is the internets after all. It's expected.
TL;DR: I'm quitting the game because there are better games. I'm pissed at CCP because they are a crappy company to do business with. 2 separate issues that combine to make forum rage.
/thread
Quitting cold turkey was impossible. The forum patch is helping me kick the habit!

just noticed this last night in the description of dust514 in the PSN store one part of it says "first wave of mercenary on the ground" or something like that.. which suggests that dust is only the first wave of mercenary to play in the eve universe and there is more to come in future (ie Legion).. did this get changed recently or has it always been like this?... if it's been always there then it may show that CCP has been planning this alot longer than what they say they have.

A friend of mine who attended the Round Tables that they didn't stream - including the one they threw together right after the keynote - told me that the sum total of effort required to make a "PS4 Client" is literally a tweak or two to allow PSN authentication and then putting it in the PS Store. That's it.
One of the reasons the PS4 is designed like it is is so that it's as easy as possible to develop for, unlike the custom-built architecture of the PS3. Because it supports x86 just like a standard desktop CPU, there's very little "porting" involved in bringing games to it.
There's no way CCP is going to say a word about a PS4 version until it's already a done-deal, since they don't want anything like this last FanFest to happen again, but I would say it's a safe bet to expect it on that platform very soon after PC launch, if not at the same time.
