I am definitely in the "I Hate CCP and Hope They Go Under" boat, but I don't have any new hate to throw on the fire.
However, what I can't understand is all the apologists--how come anyone would still have faith in CCP? Whatever their reasons, I'll respect them, but wish they'd consider the following:
...the leader of all the other pilots named Ran. She is described to be the voice inside a player's head that tells them what's going on and what to do next. The player is among these pilots that were stolen at the moment of death and implanted in new bodies to fight in the sky under the leadership of Ran.
And:
...Sackhoff plays the captain of the Valkyrie pilots, who were once genetically engineered clones created by the EVE universeGÇÖs pirate faction, the Guristas. Now, they are rebels in space. Sackhoff GÇö or Ran, as her character is called GÇö is the voice in your head, the person barking commands.
That's a swell marketing gimmick, getting a BSG actor to voice "Ran". I'm sure it has nothing to do with converting SF fanbois generally to the cult of New Eden...
Anyway, here's the problem:
There was a project called "EVE United" that was briefly shown during the final keynote of Fanfest in Iceland, and this is the real prize for CCP.
The demo we were shown included a single screen that could launch Eve Online, Vaklyrie and Project Legion, along with a single character you controlled in each game.
We were shown a female character who changed outfits and weaponry to reflect whatever game you were going to play. A single program that controls all three PC games, that you can access through a single login, sharing social functions between all three games, with character creation and progression shared throughout the entire EVE Universe? Things suddenly became very interesting.
How the f u c k is this supposed to work? So, a newly indoctrinated member of the CCP parish, having arrived by way of Valkyrie/the Guristas, is also simultaneously a capsuleer a la EVE Online, hailing from one of the 4 factions??? And can hop in a dropsuit to do some face shooting, despite allegedly disparate neural systems in capsuleers and mercs?
Seriously--if they can't keep their narrative vision consistent across projects or intelligible to the gaming community, how can anyone put their chips in with the alleged potential of Valkyrie, et al?

Luk Manag wrote:The long term plan is to have an open world sci-fi MMO where you can pursue cross-genre skill trees, like heavy machine guns and ice mining. I get that. I'm just surprised that they're so casual about the fact that their "long term plan" is at odds with their plans for the near future (eg, Valkyrie and its backstory) and their work in the past (their already extensive lore).
Rewriting the history of a universe seems like a lot of work. Whatevs--they'll probably just make something up like, "So, uh, the Jove decided to mysteriously give Faction X this technique for making capsuleers'/mercs'/pilots' neural systems equalsies. Oh, and if you're curious about the Ran+Guristas/Templar One/past lore inconsistencies, don't be--it was all just propaganda/a cover story for Development Y, our next asinine narrative twist."
Yeah, I'm good on that.

Reverse Engineering of products happens now, why wouldn't it happen in the future. Consolidation of tech happens now as well. If the startup video for Dust is to be held to truth, the Mercenary consciousness transfer was reversed engineered from Capsuleers anyways. Fair enough re: reverse engineering, but if the merc tech is REd from the cap tech, how come they aren't compatible? Why can't mercs fly in capsules, and why can't capsuleers use drop suits?

From a practical standpoint I have to wonder if this means that all 3 games will be subscription based and will you have a one subscription for 3 games sort o f thing going on.
