Are we waiting to hear: "Thanks for your time and feedback on this game. Here's a refund to those who bought AUR..."
Is that how it's going to end? I thought something good was going to happen with this game. So CCP is saying they are still going to work on this game. How long? What can we expect for the future of dust? Seriously let down. Never been so involved in a game before. If it continues great, if it ends DAMN, but I want my money back! |

LOL you said refund.
CCP has said, on numerous occasions, that no new content will be developed specificaly for dust. Take that as you will.

The game is likely to continue into the near future (at least 6 months) but with limited development. So it's not going anywhere just yet, but also won't be receiveing alot of the expected features.
I believe there was mention of balancing passes and the release of racial heavy weapons, but probably not much more than that while they focus on Legion.
And no, I wouldn't expect to hear either a 'thanks for your time' or 'here's a refund'...

To be honest with you, it might be difficult for you to get a refund. No, I'm not saying that because of my opinions. I say so because many have called Sony and they have been getting denials. At first people were getting refunds. I believe after Sony talked with CCP, things has changed. Its hard to present a viable argument for items that are consumable since you had the knowledge of buying an item for its use in game, not for the development of Dust.
I've been told development will be ongoing. What that consist of, no one really knows. Legion has not received the green light yet. If anything, there's a greater chance it might go to PS4.

Dust will continue for a while with limited development.
Players who want to jump ship will be able to take their names and SP progress with them into Legion. Aurum items and BPOs are still unknown.

At what point did anyone (except Sony) say anything but refunding our money?
CCP have said that, for now, no new content is coming to DUST, because they're developing Legion (even though they don't have confirmation that they're going to take it beyond pre-alpha prototyping stages yet). They're going to maintain the game, provide balance and bug fixes, and make some (still unspecified) improvements to Planetary Conquest.
Their "laser focus" on PS3 magically turned into a focus on PC without anyone telling us until months down the track.
They haven't announced a specific timeframe, or stated that DUST is being taken offline, but it's only a matter of time before that becomes the obvious next step.
As for those refunds, if you live somewhere with competent consumer protection laws, there's usually some kind of false advertising or misleading conduct clause you can use as grounds to make the request, and from what I've seen and heard, Sony have been pretty good about refunding people in this situation. |

I kind of got the message of "we will apply what we can from legion into DUST." from some of the statements made and questions answered at FF. Maybe I got it wrong but that's what I remember taking away from it.
TBH I'd be happy with the rest of the weapons and Minmatar/Amarr vehicles etc. Give us the rest of the content, balance it.

You are going to be S.O.L.
They already stated no new content for Dust, and that maybe new content for legion *might* filter in to dust.
TLDR: You are not getting new content anytime soon. The content team went over the work on legion 7 months ago.

The fact is, PS3's shelf life is on its last legs.
The fact is, the PS4 shares the same architecture as PCs today. It is possible. But who knows for sure? I am merely informing of the situation instead of looking to persuade him to join either faction that roams the forums

I may be a little pessimistic, but implying that Legion has "a greater chance on ps4" is extremely optimistic. The way you phrased implied a much greater chance than it has been stated by CCP.
They said after suchandsuch "we will look into it", in business speak that almost always means "probably not".
If ps4 had much chance at all, they would be playing that card a hell of a lot more to counter this whole dogshow. |

You assumed that. If I said "CCP stated that it will be on the PS4" then I understand where you coming from. But I didn't say such.
I said that it has a greater chance on PS4 because it alludes to PS4's architecture which is similar to PCs.

Here is my take:
- DUST 514 will continue for a while. We will get very minor patches, everything mostly as a hotfix. That is the "balance, PC, and Faction Warfate" thing they keep saying over and over. Little changes will happen and continue as Legion is developed. - Legion will be released next year, maybe sooner, as a beta. Our character probably will not transfer over in this case. At this moment, most people will move from DUST to Legion to try it out. DUST 514 will no longer see any changes, not even bug fixes. - Legion, coming out of beta or into a part where CCP can say that they can allow progression to happen again, will wipe Legion SP and transfer over our DUST 514 characters... probably in a very poor manner that is going to leave everyone angry. - Legion will be released completely and DUST 514 will continue as an arcade shooter for probably a year until the lights are turned off completely. - The forums will be split as this one is based on PSN, meaning there will be a lot of threads on either side about Legion or DUST and a lot of annoyed messages like "go back to your own forums." Expect a lot of "looking for these players who played DUST; are you here" posts as people try to catch up with old friends that walked away from DUST after the keynote - Legion will try to be what DUST 514 tried to be. Maybe this time CCP will actually give a damn about the game and put in effort to make it what they hyped for 5 years now...
My guess is that when characters transfer over there will be a snapshot taken of your "progress" and then whatever you do in DUST won't matter after that point. The one thing I was expecting was that DUST would be actually dead, as in no servers, before CCP started throwing around terms like "mistake" but developers were doing that within about an hour of the "DUST 514" keynote.

I've spent about the same amount of money and not afraid to say that I won't see any of this returned to me in the form of a refund. I agreed to the t & c's when I purchased it, nothing we can do.
My question though: I don't have a PC and won't be buying one, so what's the point in playing Dust at all? I did think about biomassing all my three characters and putting it behind me, but I still have some hope it will be around on the PS3 for a few years yet. The current developers can say what they want about transferring skills, SP and isky to Legion, but they probably won't be around much longer and can say anything to keep us quiet.

True but I think we have now realistically accept whats possible on the PS3.
New Weapons? Sure?
Some new maps? Maybe.

I don't see a problem with ANY of those things being available on PS3 except that CCP aren't willing to put the effort in because they're too busy with what they promised they weren't working on yet to do what they had been telling us they were working on. |

Dust 514 is originally conceived as an ever developing sandbox game for Playstation. That has changed now.
Obviously the game will shut down once Legion is out on PC. Even if they wanted to keep it working, the playerbase wouldn't reach 100 players.
The question is, why should we trust CCP in their next projects? Can this happen again?

Good question, and one that I think more people should be asking themselves.
Here's something I posted in a different thread, and I'll copy/paste it here (because I don't feel like typing it again). It basically explains my thoughts on this very question.
The quote referenced is from this article: http://www.polygon.com/2014/5/3/5677566/Dust-514-project-legion-reaction and is from Sean Decker, the VP of Product Development at CCP.
Mojo XXXIII wrote:"Put it out in front of them, see if they like it," he said. "EVR [later renamed Eve: Valkyrie] was a perfect example of that. Legion will or will not be an example of that, weGÇÖll see, and if Legion does well, great, weGÇÖll continue to invest in it. If it doesnGÇÖt, weGÇÖll open up some beers, have some fun and say, "'Ok, that was fun, letGÇÖs do something different now and go again.'"
^This. This quote right here is what people should be concerned about.
This half-assed "let's throw some sh*t at the wall and see if it sticks" attitude was a huge factor in why Dust fell short of the mark, and has nothing at all to do with console limitations.
If they can't even fully commit to their own "vision", then how can they possibly expect to make that vision a reality? They essentially hijacked their own Dust presentation to show off some cool footage that they've been tinkering with (when they should have been spending that time and energy working on their actual, real, existing product, mind you), but can't even give a firm, definitive commitment as to whether or not Legion is even going to see the light of day.
It almost sounds like the devs have been playing around instead of doing their jobs.
Boss: "How's that coding coming along for the player market?" Dev: "That? Yeah, I was having some difficulty with that, so I gave up, but look at this neat video I made instead!" Boss: "Hey, that IS neat! Let's just scrap everything we've been working on, and see if we can make a game like that instead!"
CCP has cool ideas, but lack the focus, commitment, and professionalism to effectively bring those ideas to life.
So, here we are now, and the best they can say is "we'll see if the players think the video is as neat as we do and, if they do, we'll start trying to turn it into a game!", and that's not a very encouraging way to begin development.
Not if you want that game to be successful, anyway.
But, what the hell, if it doesn't work out, they'll just laugh, drink a few beers, scrap the whole thing and try something else.
Sound familiar?

As what everyone else said Dust will get simple fixes and little content. I don't think CCP wants shut down Dust , but the community most likely just leave the game because very little is going to get updated . It most likely will in the near future because I don't suspect many to stick around a game that has many annoying issues and won't receive big updates that many hope. |
