So far, the only worthy interaction beetween EVE, Dust and Legion is in factional warfare. Even there, they dont seems to affect each other as much.
Yes you got an orbital strike every so often and pilots gets a bit of LP but, and correct me if I'm wrong, except if the systems assaulted are "frontline systems" (your system neighboring an enemy system and vice-versa) these interaction don't really have as much chance of happening. Also, the bonus given per district controlled to eve online pilot doesnt seems to incite eve player much in investing in a merc corp.
As for the null sec experiment, If you cant produce an unlimited amount of good always sure to be bought at maximum price by NPC, you kinda destroy any chance to have a real economy. Although, to be fair, this was more of a test than an actual long term design.
For any meaningful interaction, what you really need is a strong economic tie. Dust economy is quite self reliant and capsulers economy never really need the help of the mercenaries. We fight on planets aren't we? Can't we affect EVE planetary interaction some way? Can't we disrupt the ebb and flow of planetary good in controlled district?
So far, when announcing legion, you mentioned salvaging for merc loot. Good idea but then again it changes nothing to eve. Glad you finally went with a player driven economy but as long as we can't affect eve's we'll still fight 2, albeit happening at the same time, separate war.
Waging war in a particular world may be detrimental to the industrial output. You dont see shop and factory stay open for long in the middle of war zone. That may also incite eve players to hire more mercenaries so peace, quiet and profite may come back quickly to their colonies.
Is it possible to have the actual district be a specific part of the planet with the installation capsuler put on it instead of an hypothetical piece of pie you can't pinpoint on a map? We could blow up installation, forcing people to reconstruct. Or we could just keep everything intact as much as possible during a battle so we don't have to reconstruct everything when we take control.
Once you control your district you might be able to build strategic installation and collect taxes from colonies situated in this district. Of course this might be a bit much since the POCO already taxes planetary goods. Maybe allowing mercs to manufacture planetary goods too although I don't see how they could get the good off planet without capsuler help.
Also, to keep the same spirit as in eve online, i think it would be really great if we could manufacture our own equipment. Wouldn't it be possible to use planetary commodities to make armor, weapons, vehicles and modules? You could progressively phase out the stuff sold by npcs and dust/legion would have a real economy. Salvaged modules could be variation like eve's meta 1 to 4 items. Not as powerfull has faction variant and tech 2s (in this case specialised or prototype) but good enough so player with low skills and cash find them interesting.
To maintain sovereignty it might be necessary to attack planets too. What if merc could build ordinance directly affecting eve online? Canon capable of aiming POS, Flak attacking orbiting ships and preventing cargo from entering or leaving the planet?
I talked about planetary interaction because it s the simplest way we could interact with the capsuler since down there, it s our play ground but if you have any suggestion please go ahead. |
