While that was true for the PS3, it is not true for the PS4.
The PS3, when released, was more powerful than most PC configurations available at the time. Sony went nuts on the hardware (for its time) and actually took a loss for each PS3 sale to even get them out of the door.
For the PS4 they changed their perspective on their console. They sell the console for a profit and the power leap from PS3 to PS4 was far smaller than other past generations (percentage wise). When the PS4 released, with its relatively modest specs, it was already vastly outclassed by modern gaming PCs.
Also, processors have almost stopped in terms of innovation. My 3-4 year old CPU (i5 2500K) is just as fast as my buddies almost brand new CPU (i5 4600K). The only innovation in PCs today is graphics cards. My pair of 4 year old graphics cards are still holding up nicely, although I do occasionally suffer from lack of VRAM.
A ~$1000 computer built today with a GTX 770 graphics card will play all PS4 titles with a similar fidelity, I can guarantee that. It is more than twice as expensive yes, but it can also do more than gaming.

That's like saying a sports car is for racing at the track while a minivan is for driving on the street. All of the sudden the sports car can't drive on the street?
My PC is made for gaming, I built it Summer 2010 and its already better than the PS4 at gaming. The only reason PS4's are for 'gaming' is because Sony shells out tons of cash for console exclusivity. There is no other reason a PC can't play a PS4 game better than the PS4 can.

IF you made a PC in 2010 that is better for gaming than a Ps4... well I guess you spent 2k+ on it due to the fact that the best GFX card you could have (over $600) was the GTX 480, of which you would need between 2-3 in SLI in order to match the Ps4, oh you must have had a pretty badass board ($250+) in order to facilitate that, oh and a ton of ram ($200+), that isn't to mention the expensive powersupply that you would need to use, or the fact that your electrical bill just from the past 3 years could have bought you a PS4 with 4-5 years of PSplus (you know 120+ free games).
Oh no I guess you're right, I was off a year. June 2011 I bought a GTX 570 for 300. Bought a second one used last year for 125.
I never said that PCs were cheaper, but to say that PCs are for doing work and that consoles are for gaming is ignorant as wrong.
