As I read all the many threads about the farce of a Dust keynote, I am detecting a common theme. Many of you seem to be feeling like "CCP, this was a horrible way to communicate this. All you needed to do was X. Please don't F_ up like that again!" I can only surmise that you have entered the New Eden universe via DUST514 and haven't really kept track of CCP in its past decade. (Why would you.)
Others have said this in their own replies to the various threads, but I haven't detected any change in the common understanding, so I thought I'd make a thread just to point it out specifically. This is the way CCP does things. Ridiculously. Stupidly. Handling PR like they're in a competition to see how many customers they can p__s off. If you didn't come from Eve:Online you might not realize this, but CCP has been as intuitive as a turtle for over a decade now.
Have you read anyone's comment who used stereotypical quotes of an abused spouse or such things? That's what this is like, but it isn't just from the past 2-3 years of Dust development. CCP has been like this for a decade. CCP is not a young company still trying to figure out how to read and communicate with their customer base. If experience is the ultimate teacher, they've spent more hours in class than virtually any other company thrice their age. The only answer is either the whole staff, past and present, are on the asperger scale somewhere or they simply don't care to try to get better. The odds of it being the former is pretty freaking slim.
I welcome feedback, questions, etc, and for other Eve:Online vets to either support or challenge my post.
My main hope in posting this is that for those of you who are new customers of CCP will not build future expectations expecting a normal company's reaction and development, only to be let down a number of times in the coming 2-5 years. I'm hoping to help spare you from that wasted investment, involvement, and dedication. Go forward if you like, I'm not saying not to, just know what you can realistically expect from CCP. Do the research.

Preach it brutha! I was saying this whole past year as well as the past week (props on the battered spouse ref).
I really hoped they wouldn't do this again but, oh well. What can I say. NOT a publicly traded company.

Especially then having no news about the game the keynote is supposed to be on.
Straight-forward might barely explain but does not justify "Don't pay attention to what {Eve:O players} say, pay attention to what they do."
Straight-forward does not explain letting hybrids sit broken for several years.
I'm all about HTFU, but not to the point where you lose compassion and understanding. HTFU is a fine thing to say to someone who's being entitled or overly-sensitive(which might vary according to culture...), but not someone just asking to be treated as a valued customer who had dedicated time and effort contributing to your still-developing game.

Exactly, no matter what they ****** in EVE, people's progress still mattered, theyw ere never royally screwed out of the entire game. Legion isnt a port of DUST, legion is DUST's REPALCEMENT, were losing everything, so CCP can create a lobby-shooter style FPS on the computer that "will have all the features we conned you into spending cash on DUST for" [paraphrased] |

1) Why shouldn't not CCP be a better company? Or why should we not expect CCP to be a better company? (Actually, "expect" could mean two different things here: Either expect as in predict or plan for, or expect as in feel it is deserved.)
2) How would we be better customers?

The problem isn't that we don't expect CCP to screw us over.
The problem is that this is one of the rare low points even by CCP's standards.
Many of us have been here for more than 2 years now. We've seen some of what CCP can do. And a lot of us came to DUST because of interest in EVE, so we've seen how CCP have handled that as well. Some of us were there, or at least watching from the sidelines, when Incarna happened. We watched the Jita Riots, or joined in. While EVE didn't get all they were promised, their game continued to thrive, and their rage left scars on New Eden.
I wonder... will we leave any kind of mark when this is all over? |

They thread the dangerous way.
Like, where you will find a game that let you be a criminal? In EVE, as long as its in game, you are allowed to be a **** and scam people, lie, create intrigues and disruption.
CCP often show their works ahead of time, incomplete, and in a disastrous way (like Legion). But how many people complain about other companies not being that forthcoming, not sharing whats being done. Usually you only know about a thing when its ready.
Walk in stations was a big blopper as well, though I think I would like the feature if it was actually useful, like to connect Dust and EVe avatars in the same ambience.
Think about Valkirie, it was EVE(R), it wasnt even a thing, just a side project like Legion is. It got traction and good response. It could as well have bombed like WiS, sparkilng rage in EVE players for their resources going to another game.
Think Dust, the game you love to hate, many EVE players were, and are, against it sucking money from EVE, still its a thing and found a public and a market.
But to the CCP credit, they do come around, fix, adapt, elaborate, reiterate, in a continuous process. |

Please note the purpose of this thread: To make new-comers aware. I am not saying CCP should burn to the ground, or rallying for a boycott of their games. Only providing information, especially historical information, which could be useful for some people in making their decisions.
The decisions are theirs to make.

i started playing eve right before incarna (a week after they announced dust).
this was not my experience. the burn jita situation came from people being mad about eve becoming a pay to win type of a game, and i couldn't figure out how a monocle was going to win any fights.
in my experience ccp has been playing it pretty straight with the community, but i've only been around for just under 3 years.
but this is the end of my ccp experience. i accomplished what i set out to accomplish. i'm a pvp god, and i owned molden heath. dust is dead, and so is eatsbabies cienfuegos.

Now its call at nine am and by ten am the TELMEX truck crew is there ready to string phone lines.
