EVE is a virtual world whose inhabitants have more freedom to play the villain and experiment with various backhanded tactics than in any other MMO. The freedom to scam and commit piracy, espionage, and extortion are all fundamental to the EVE Online experience, and CCP will never change that. However, it is important to remember that the EVE universe is a virtual world, and behavior of this nature should remain firmly within that virtual world.

I would like an example of an incident where CCP has scammed, pirated, spied on or extorted anyone.

Continuously saying things like 10 year road map and laser focused on PS3, bragging about the amazing new things to be announced at fanfest, and then hosting a bunch of events meant to siphon money out of people right before they announce they are stopping future updates for the game and possibly starting all over on a different platform may not quite be a scam to some people but it is most certainly not honest actions.

person deceives when the person intentionally:

(a) Creates or reinforces a false impression, including false impressions as to law, value, intention, or other state of mind;

(c) Fails to correct a false impression which the deceiver previously created or reinforced or which the deceiver knows to be influencing another to whom the person stands in a fiduciary or confidential relationship;

This is the state staute for the state of Kentucky which is echoed in a very similar form in most US states.

By these definitions, CCP hasn't done anything wrong. Preventing someone from acquiring information is not the same as withholding information, unless you are legally required to not withhold that information.

Also, "Kentucky". Last I checked, CCP was based in Iceland.

Yes they are most certainly exempt from that particular law by location but the fact still stands that they continued to reinforce a false impression all the way up to the Dust keynote and used that false impression to gain extra sales.

They did say some bullshit about The Dust part of Dust514, but the 514 part was never told officially. And there are rumours that the whole 10 year plan thing was bullshit as soon after starting beta with the public they started preliminary work on a PC version which is legion.
