Mercs and Valkyrie fighters mixing it up in real time in an EVE battle. Awesome, but realistic this decade?
EVE runs in one shard at a clock tick of once per second but can slow down when overloaded. The other two games run on multiple server instances at a far faster rate with no time dilation. How could the EVE pilots see the fighters and interact with them at one second intervals? How would multiple Valkyrie servers see each other? What happens to the fighters when EVE goes deep into TiDi?
Is this anything but a PR attempt to keep players from migrating to Star Citizen which will integrate all ship combat and FPS right from the start? |

I doubt it. CCP, as with EVERYTHING they have done besides EVE, only wants to make sexy thing. You know, the kind of stuff that gets you noticed. Let's take a look:
"How about we connect EVE with a console game? We will get all this press about 'transgaming' and how great that we are the first." DUST 514. "How about some kind of Oculus Rift thing? Hey, we actually did good with it; let's make it a big massive thing!" Valkyrie, though this one is pure luck because CCP devs were the first backers of OR so it is just a happy little accident. "We can't do DUST 514 on PS3, so let's put it on PC. How about we go about connecting all of our games under a single character name? That sounds cool." This is the EVE United thing, which is kind of funny that they are putting so much effort into it when it isn't so sexy when you say "it is like battle.net 2.0 name tags." Even World of Darkness was more about the sexy. 12 vampire clans, like 13 werewolf clans, big sandbox MMORPG set in a modern world. Unwieldy I am sure.
Though maybe it is just a cool idea they had with their idea of three different games that you can play for different amounts of time. Valkyrie for the 10-40 minute bits, Legion for the 1-3 hours of play, and EVE for the mega 2-8 hour plays.
Images and .gifs were fun while it lasted.

I don't expect one to kill the other, though competition will have to affect CCP to some degree.
I'm curious if CCP presented anything on the technical side at FF, or if the trailer is the only thing we have. |

So is EVE United just a character launcher, or is it more? The "EVE Prophecy" trailer shows full real time integration of all three games. |

I would not put to much weight into the Fanfest trailer as far as seeing all that happening any time soon. The trailers look great and sometimes hint at long term goals. That is years and years down the road as far as all three games happening at once in a Eve battle. I could see Legion being used to capture the new gates or even stations but not sure about the dropships being able to be taken out by Eve Pilots. The Valkrye pilots will be vs each other and NPCs as far as I know on role out and not in Eve capsuleer piloted carriers. The trailers are always great to watch though. Maybe one day they will make a movie. |

Thanks. I was wondering CCP laid that out as a goal with plans in one of the FF presentations. It seems not. |

I would absolutely love for small gangs with Dust boarding parties to be something Super pilots fear, but I don't even know how that would work in an engagement, ESPECIALLY one in TiDi.
Putting that aside, Valkyrie pilots sitting around in an Archon waiting for a fight to break out, only to do strafing run after strafing runs on structures doesn't sound very fun either, so I don't even know how that would be possible.
I foresee the interactions being more of a passive one - perhaps a boarding party can land on a structure and shift a reinforcement timer or offline a cyno jammer if a specific objective is accomplished. And the Valkyrie missions, if they end up affecting the greater EVE universe at all, would probably be something similar to the way that Dust514 FW works.

How did they describe the unified launcher? Is it one character for all three games, or just a front end pasted on all three that is used to pick the game you want to play?
If the former, will the Capsuliers be getting merc implant upgrades and trade in their custom clones for generic merc clones? I can't see it working with the old tech as you can't carry a capsule on the battlefield, but I can't see the proud pilots going to generic lines either. Was this addressed in any FF presentation? |

There is some lore fluff about 'allowing conciousness to transfer to different clone types' being worked on/cracked or something. So you will be the 'same' person, but with different skill progression in each game. So you can't spend EVE SP on Dust/etc. (Or I hope so anyway, would be weird if it somehow crossed actual skill points). But you can claim memories. |

That cant be right. That's a pretty lame claim to being the same character.
So if you learn to bake a cake as a merc you forget how when you go back to being a capsuleer? How is that different from learning to wear a dropsuit? Or remember who you met and what you talked about? It makes no sense.

What I could see is having to have a capsuleer clone to have the jack to connect to a ship and perhaps to carry the learning implant to get the EVE skills. But knowing how to use the skills shouldn't turn off. You don't just forget how to negotiate or run industry. |

The way I imagine - Super caps "lock" in battle when valkiries are fighting... The winner is the one that destroys each others ship. - Titan Captures also lock them in a "Infiltration" play... It will slowly lose habilities or shield power to whatever legionaries are fighting ... SO for example... if the destroy a module... this make them offline to the EVE player cotroling it ... There are lot's of ways to explore these kinds of gameplay...

Glad to see I wasn't the only one who thought this.
It seems a lot of very recent decisions by CCP are to directly emulate / compete with SC.

Even CCP would be the first to admit this will not be happening soon, I think it is more something they would love to see if and when the technology presents itself. For instance Tidi right now is used because it helps with server loads in largescale conflicts. Maybe they develop the ability to run every eve player on a single node without performance issues. Then they would not need TiDi and then the issue of timing for Valkyrie pilots is not as relavent. Dont get me wrong there are LOADS of issues they have to overcome before they can even consider it. But before all of that they need to make two other games work with only a prehiphrial connection, hence the idea beind Legion. |

I need to go back and reread/rewatch what's out there but the most interesting part to me was the idea that the New Eden namespace server would be decoupled from Tranquility. Just as interesting was the statement that this would significantly reduce the load on Tranquility.
I realize that's pretty sloppy, would love to see diagrams for the entire glorious mess, preferably in a geeky dev blog full of numbers and graphs.
I support SP rollover.

Hmmm... Legionnaires infiltrating stations / stargates, fighting of AI drones until other players show up, taking out the shield generator right as a cap fleet jumps in to finish the job - sounds good, and actually relatively achievable.
The tricky bit is incorporating the Pilots - as while ground battles can be easily instanced of from EVEs big TIDi lag fests, that wouldn't really work for Valkyrie. |

It's a great idea regardless, but it certainly feels rushed since it will be years before anything like that is possible.
The Gamespot website has the Prophecy trailer and is reporting it without any explanation, which is probably what CCP hoped would happen. I'll bet that will lead a lot of non EVE players to think that it's a near term thing |
