***** about the real issues, not this. Already explained that images and gifs make the forum slower and less to security issues. It's the same way in EVE. Unlike actual game code, shutting down gifs and images would be pretty quick.

Performance isn't the issue with this forum, being so small.
It's security that's the issue. You can sneak many a foul things into sigs like these.
Now CCP could add in measures to prevent most of the problems that could occur, but someone clever will always go the extra mile and still bypass it.
So there's really no reason for CCP to spend more money to prevent a problem, when they can just remove the source all together, especially when it's something that's arguably insignificant. |

that is how facebook does things. everything on facebook is cached to there servers. trusted sites like youtube was an exception but not sure it that is so now. |

This would be worse.
If I trick the image tag into linking to an external script or similar, that's one thing. Minor inconvenience and redirects.
If I convince CCP's server to download my script or similar, it's pretty much game over.
