So LEgion is being worked on for PC because PS3 just doesnt have he capability to handle all that CCP want to do. Fair enough. Sucks for the console players but CCP are trying to get Dust to where it needs to be and PC is the place for it.
Dont get me wrong I am ipset that the PS3 version will be pretty much halted but CCP have missed a trick here. You have been looking at how to get your dream onto the PS3 instead of making your goal to do as much as the PS3 can handle. Build what you can to the PS3's limit. There is still room to grow here. However once you reach that limit and silly people still ask for more then let them know that to get more you have to port to the PS4. Which has better capabilities that the current machine.
Dont stop making Legion by all means. True intigration to the EVE universe sits in that direction. But let Dust be your console game that slowly grows. almost an alternative universe version of Legion. A sand alone if yo will. Mainly letting the console players know tat the console has its limitations and you can only build into that limitation.
Thus you get your integrated Eve universe and keep hold of a Console FPS market. Build to what the console can do and no more. If the players want more than the ps3 and ps4 can offer then there is Legion to go to.
You also keep the console revenue stream going insead of shooting it into the ground.
But that is just my thoughts.

Well supposedly Legion is being built to run on x86 architecture which the PS4 uses. If this is true, after Legion is up and running on PC, CCP could contact Sony and do that stuff, optimize Legion for PS4, map the controls for PS4, and badabing, you have Legion on PS4 without having to build a whole new game.

The Problem thought is the compatability between PC and PS4 during game play. Not sure it is that easy to have 2 people (one on each system) to be able to play together. But who knows. That is for the programmers to look into.

Every console gamer would get ragged so badly that they'd quit or CCP would have to separate the games by platform but that won't happen and op, dust pushes the ps3 already. Tablets have more RAM gtfo lol.
Well that was fun

"You also keep the console revenue stream going insead of shooting it into the ground."
Frankly I don't think that there is much of a revenue stream. If DUST on console would easily pay for its own development, then this might be a feasible plan. Keep DUST on the console but limit it to what works on the console, then create Legion for the "real vision".
But I don't think that's the case, so it is a matter of resources. Most of the DUST team is required to pull of Legion and putting more resources into a separate team for the console version is not likely to pay off. Especially considering that a lot of people will switch to Legion, so DUST will likely become even less successful than it already is.
We will never know the financial specifics, but DUST simply doesn't have the markings of a successful game (successful in relation to CCP's ambitions and the probable budget). Legion isn't just luxury, it's clearly an attempt to salvage the dream. |
