I play FPS since they were born. FPS many of you have only ear about like Doom, Doom2, Quake and Quake 2-3 ETC ETC. That was only on PC. There is a reason why many people switched over console. It's Competition. When i get kill i want to know that the guy that kill me was in an equal play field. 2 problems rise with a PC game: the first and MOST important in a FPS are AIMBOT-TRIGBOT-WALLHACKZ, they are a nuisance in every Battlefield/COD etc etc Now imagine that ****** things in a MMOFPS where very death count. Cant possibly go well. The second one is that a consolle is a equal play field. You come with the same controller, the same CPU etc etc. On consolle you don't have to worry about 1000000 DPI mouse, or MACRO-keybord that can put you at disadvantage even before logging the game. And there is no way to balance this 2 thing. Copy/Paste from another thread.
Hacking is a real concern, but I'd like to add a few thoughts about that:
1) Generally the problem is exaggerated. Despite playing FPS for more than a decade, I have only encountered a handful of obvious cheaters. I have had my suspicions in some other cases yes, but I have been called a cheater myself a hundred times more than that, so I have learned to take this with a large grain of salt. People tend to go batshit if they encounter a real cheater on a pub, so those memories stick in their brains and mesh with their more common suspicious until it becomes "the game is riddled with cheaters" in their mind. Ultimately it's not that much of a big deal to change servers when you encounter an obvious hacker. There can be non-obvious cheaters, but if they are non-obvious it also means that they don't ruin the gameplay experience for everyone else.
2) Good anti-cheat tools actually work, eventually you are going to get busted. Of course you can make a new account, but building a legacy in a game with long-term progression by cheating is going to be near impossible.
3) If you are concerned about unbalancing the economy by exploiting new accounts with cheats to make a quick buck, then think about this: If the best player in the world creates a new account to stomp some newbs, would he become filthy rich? Of course not. Time investment is far more significant in this game than performance, so the harm that can be caused by hacking newbie accounts is negligible.
I know a lot of people think that hackers run rampant on the PC, but that hasn't stopped the PC from being the platform of choice for the most competitive shooters in the world. Ultimately this is far more a problem of perception than reality.
Now, regarding uneven playing fields: First of all, this problem again is exaggerated. When you are playing on the absolute top-level, then players like to optimise even the tiniest of factor to gain that miniscule edge over their competition. But ultimately, your comfort with your tools is a much bigger factor than a slightly more reactive keyboard, or five more frames per second. It's true that there are many factors which can negatively impact your experience if you neglect it completely, but getting to a competitive standard is neither difficult nor expensive. Especially these days where you can get excellent gaming equipment for cheap, e.g.:
One of the better gaming mice for 30 bucks (you can also get perfectly suitable gaming mice for $20, but I haven't tested those) A perfect mouse pad for 15 bucks (or $6 for a classic favourite amongst top players)
Keyboard really doesn't matter, it's far more important that you got a comfortable desk and chair... oh and don't believe all the dumb marketing speech ("programmable", "macros", "supermegafancyswitches" etc). That's not what actually good players buy such equipment for, but for its ergonomy and basic functionality. E.g. all I ever use for my mice are the basic mouse drivers that come with the operating system, which hasn't stopped me from playing on a fairly high competitive level in the past. The less frills, the better. The main reason pro gamers play with all that fancy equipment is that they are getting sponsored to do so, not because they really have to.
More importantly, all of this is also true for console gaming. Some TVs are better than others, some headphones are better than others, some couches are more comfortable than others, and finally you can even use a mouse and keyboard in DUST (not to mention custom controllers, with stuff like rapid fire buttons and macros). A truly even playing field is a myth, even on a console. |

Pros: You still get to play a better Dust514 You now have a PC A new library of games become available including past Console titles for free via roms and emlators with the use of a control pad too. Better DPI with M/KB Input You are now in the master race club (I joke I joke) You can upgrade hard ware
Cons: Everyone will call you a CCP lapdog, PC elitist, egger, traitor, or otherwise. All my online friends are on PSN Its sort of hard to lie on my couch and play with a M/KB..... Adapting to KB/M input PC takes up too much room meaning wife kicks you out of lounge (lol I can relate) PC Require more maintenance, antivirus software, driver updates etc Hey, PC dumbfuck, there's A LOT BETTER REASONS TO BUY A PC THEN LEGION. And I still didn't, wonder why? Stop being a rich white boy prick and never ask people to buy something expensive again to keep up, elitist jerk. If a PC is expensive, so is the PS4. PS4 = 400 Decent PC = 800 Or you can waste money, get a cheap PC that'll be dated in a few years, and torture yourself. I think you honestly believe your own crap, sad.
800 but upgradable and more utility and cheaper games. In the long run this may cost you less, but even if not, the difference is really not big enough to play the "rich boy" card. High end gaming is a luxury, no matter how you put it. |

A truly even playing field is a myth, even on a console. Since i'm in a hurry now i promise i expand my reply later Keybord matter too, trust me. And i know because i've tried it once (in realty a program to perform action simulating a macro, there weren't macro keyboard back then) and do the now forgotten practice of Rocket-Jump by pressing a single button (Aim down-JUMP-Shot) than have to actually aim down with your mouse and timing the Fire and the Jump.
Like you said, you don't need special hardware to run a macro. But the thing is, those macros are all toys which are only used by beginners (been there, done that). Experienced players will laugh in your face if you tell them that you are using a macro to rocket jump. And that's not because they aren't interested in getting any advantage they can get. The only automation they'd use are things like quick-buy scripts in CS, to speed up mundane repetitive actions.
That's pretty much a common theme with all the fancy "gaming gear". It's meant to make beginners think that they will get a leg up on the competition, but good players stick with the essentials because everything else really just gets in the way of player skill. |
