Actually, first CCP promised to never ever ever make EVE pay to win.
Then, a bunch of EVE players got pissed off that CCP introduced expensive barbie doll accessories and one single dirty room to look a them in that added no game play value instead of new in game content all while pouring money into developing a F2P game for console and a F2P vampire game. . then right when that happened the EVE players got a hold of a letter that said, "hey, maybe we could make money on selling items that gave advantage in game. . ."
Then they got pissed because the $180 a year they poured into CCP per account wasn't actually going towards their game and content. . .
Progress on content had been stalled and stuff was still broken from years before. . . Their time and investment was not being repaid. . They felt they were being lied to because CCP had promised to "never ever ever" introduce Pay to win into EVE and yet they were kicking the idea around in an internal news letter. . .
Then 10% of the player base unsubscribed and people got laid off because CCP still had to pay off the loans they took out to finance World of Darkness & DUST development.
Write up from the CSM chair who flew to Rek for the emergency summit:

Just as CCP had to disentangle itself from Incarna, they need to disentangle themselves from what is quite obviously a broken MMOFPS to try and build a good one, or at least one that does everything they want it to do.
So yeah actually, those of us who were around for that do get why DUST players are pissed, even if you don't understand what you are talking about in reference to Incarna or just want to troll.
So either quit trolling or get your facts straight. |

Also show me how any of that even comes close to what us dust bunnies have been through?
You can act like you went through this great injustice, but it is honestly childs play next to what has just happened to dusters and to say otherwise is to lie.
You little troll.
What did you say that was inaccurate? Um, all of it. because I objectively told you exactly what happened back in '11 and because you are deliberately misrepresenting what happened, trolling with inflammatory language on an alt all of 4 days old.
Yes, you poor victim. You got a F2P game that required no additional real money to be competitive that is not going to receive any more major updates because the updates that the developers want to give and the game they want will not work in the existing framework.. Never mind the leadership changes int he Shanghai studio. . .You chose to plunk your cash in, you didn't need to pay to get access to the game, unlike a subscription player. Yeah, no one in EVE had reason to b_tch back then. . .
God forbid you be given the game that the community has been begging for on a different platform from what you want it on.
(Should have been on PC in the first day anyways, but CCP had it in their head they were going to put the EVE universe on every device in the world.)
Oh, speaking of that and just in case you hadn't noticed, the CCP Mobile division went bye bye back in April, along with the WOD team getting gone very recently. God forbid they decide to change their business plans without consulting you. Actually the signs were pretty obvious in hind sight that changes were coming to CCP's plans if one knew where to look, which a the time I didn't. I see it now.
You're p__sed off because you bought Aurum? You've claimed you got it refunded, so no problem there. You mad bro because CCP didn't sign a death pact with you on your beloved console? They are a business and have a gaming company to run.
Yeah, I am still upset about the tone deaf manner in which this whole thing was announced, in marked opposition to the opinion of the CPM and CSM, who said there was going to be bad backlash. There was going to be butthurt and backlash no matter what. I like CCP's games, but I have never accused them of being especially bright company in regards to reconciling marketing and PR.
No matter how much you cry, it's not going to change the fact CCP has decided that they made a mistake and are changing their plans. Fine, exercise your right a as customer and stop paying them, and while you are not paying them save your money for a PC or maybe, maybe a PS4, or find a new gaming community to troll using alts.
The only DUST players I feel bad for are the guys that schlepped across the Atlantic to go to Fanfest and got a Legion Keynote instead of a DUST Keynote because no one had the courage to bring the changes up sooner. I say that as someone who has bought into DUST from the beginning and bought Aurum and BPO packs. I played a free game, I gave money because I liked the service in addition to the $240 a year I give for my EVE subs, and now the ride is going to end at some point. I will get on a new free ride that I think I will like even better, from what I hear about it. |

Seriously, what part of the NEX store is pay2win? There's nothing but cosmetic items, and there never will be anything but cosmetic items. Nothing gives you an advantage other than looking cooler than the other guy.
None now and I like my ships skins yes I do, but a major sticking point back then was quotes in the never bedamned enough newsletter like:
"Not all virtual purchases will focus on customization, some will simply be new items, ammunition, ships, etc. that can be purchased outright." and "One other service we're looking at is selling faction standings. We want to offer convenience"
which resulted in the following quote coming true:
"We're going to face an uphill struggle, and the reason many of us never talk about this publically is that we'd be burned at the stake by the players" |
