No, that's what they SHOULD have done, not what they ACTUALLY DID.
They've announced Legion as a new project that's taking over after DUST failed to deliver what they wanted.
The plan had always been for DUST to outlive PS3, but until this announcement, they had been building us up to expect it on the PS4. Also before the announcement, while trading on player expectations of a PS4 version, they got many players to spend money on sales of microtransaction content when they weren't planning to deliver what those players had been told their purchases would be contributing to.
They emphasised a focus on the PS3 while moving most of the dev team AWAY from the PS3 and onto the new project. They had E3 time via Sony promoting the future of DUST 514 on the PS4 and did nothing to suggest that plan would be changing for MONTHS after making the decision. They've been actively pushing sales for people to pay real-world money to help fund a project while LYING to us about the project we're helping to fund.
I'm not at all against the move to PC, but I would prefer that PS4 be the lead platform simply because that's what they had been advertising for so long. If they want to change, though, I'm fine with that. But this announcement, and so much of the circumstances around it, has been a HUGE screwup by a LOT of people.

It's being built in a new engine.
It's being built from the ground up.
It's being specifically promoted by CCP as a NEW GAME that's being developed while DUST is still being "supported".
Look at Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Look at Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
Look me in the eye and tell me those aren't the same game. OH WAIT. THEY AREN'T.
Look at Battlefield 3
Look at Battlefield 4
Look me in the eye and tell me those aren't the same game. OH WAIT. THEY AREN'T.
Look at Armored Core V
Look at Armored Core: Verdict Day
Look me in the eye and tell me those aren't the same game. OH WAIT. THEY AREN'T.
For any of the above examples, it's possible to find footage that makes the two games look so similar that a casual observer won't know which is which, or even that they're different games. When you dig into the mechanics, or actually play the games for yourself, you can tell they're different, but on the surface, they don't look it.
Look at the Skirmish 1.0 closed beta footage that's floating around on YouTube.
Look at slightly-less old Chromosome footage.
Look at Uprising 1.0 footage.
Look at Uprising 1.8 today.
Look me in the eye and tell me those are the same game. Wait, what?
Yeah. DUST has already been a lot of things, and it SHOULD be what Legion is going to be. But that's not what CCP are planning, and it should be. |
