Back when they got rid of them in eve they removed them because it caused loading lag; and proved to be a serious security issue (the primary and still largest reason) I wished CCP could fix that and have htem returned but I am not security I have no idea what would be needed.
Moderation I never felt was an issue though just that back then they had to manually warn people who where over the size limit.
CCP needs to update to the new century though and find a solution.

Our logins are handled through PSN which only passes a secure token back making account fishing pretty tough.

Just fire up your web-console in firefox and it will warn you about it. The only way to make sure your sigs are served encrypted is if they hosted them themselves, potentially making them liable for legality and copyright of the content.
And I kittening hate them. Visually. The vast majority of sigs in this forum are useless and irrelevant (including mine) and the gifs just cap it all.
Kudos for the one who found the exploit though.

Posting is implemented in BBCode and has image restrictions except for devs.
Signatures use StackOverflow's markdown editor, 'wmd'.
They haven't got bolding in signatures in BBCode either, but I'm not assuming bold text is forbidden.

I spend 85% of my time on the forums on my phone.
It takes twice as long to load pages and trying to edit my text is almost impossible because of how long it takes for each backspace or touch to register.
But I actually like signatures, it's much easier to tell who is who as I'm scrolling fast down the page, which is a HUGE benefit.

I find hilarious that the same people that can't make people on forum use GIFS 'cause secure problem, are the same that must protect Legion from Aimbot and Trigbott or other client hack.
