Because for the most part human eyes are drawn to motion and especially so when they are within an inch of what we are trying to read. It wouldn't be so bad if they didn't didn't repeat and only only cycled once but I have seen your airbender gif cycle so many times now that I am ready to hide your posts to make it stop.

I spend 85% of my time on the forums on my phone.
It takes twice as long to load pages and trying to edit my text is almost impossible because of how long it takes for each backspace or touch to register.
But I actually like signatures, it's much easier to tell who is who as I'm scrolling fast down the page, which is a HUGE benefit.
