CCP has made it very clear that they cannot do what they want to do on the PS3 and the only way to put out the game they want to put out is on PC. Let's accept this premise. CCP goes on to say that DUST 514 will continue to get updates but much of the focus is going into Legion. Accepting this as well. Based of those two things, we can assume that DUST 514 is basically going to be allowed to die so that Legion can be what DUST was supposed to be. This seems to be what is happening or at least what is being planned.
What happens if Legion is not green lit? What if it dies and is just said "we have decided to not proceed with Legion"? CCP used a third of FanFest to hype Legion and by proxy announce the passing of DUST 514. Google some of the Legion articles. They are all the same; "CCP is looking to learn from the mistakes of DUST 514." So what happens if Project Legion is stopped for whatever reason after all the fanfare about the new project and the lack of faith people now have in DUST (including the players of DUST)?

It was just a thought I had; after all this pomp and circumstance, why play the "we just need Hilmar's approval" card?
Seriously, go back to the CCP keynote. When Rouge comes on stage, I expected Hilmar to bring a bat to him based on the boss's glare.

Links? Not saying I don't believe you, but I'd like the ability to do my research on this. This is correct. As far as Legion goes, and what that would mean for DUST if we didn't get the green light (very unlikely at this stage, the team has been working really hard and doing well), I honestly don't know. I was angry as hell with the announcement. That fact that I became even more of a no life forum troll in the last 48 hours is good evidence of that. Anger is subsiding for just pure unadulterated frustration and a lot of fear ("Mah SP! Mah AUR!"). Based on more of the stuff I have read about how long this thing has been going on for (like 6 months which is half of the entire official release of the game) and just your statements now of "it is likely going to happen", why was the community/customers told in this manner? I mean, this is Ozymandias going I did it 20 minutes ago.
Between the "hey, it might not even happen", the dev blog stating the likely untrue statement that it is just an entirely new game, every DUST 514 speech being about this different project, and no questions answered at FanFest y'all did a really good job at just instilling "hate boners" in us all...

Akdhar Saif wrote:Its already been greenlit. Simply announcing Legion brought about the death of Dust. Vita app was announced too.
Basically, players were not told how big Legion was behind the scenes. Thus, we could not have known that it was more important than DUST to the developers but it being announced did basically kill DUST even if Legion wasn't completed. CCP just said "we can't do DUST 514, the promise we had, on the PS3." You can't unring that bell so if Legion was stopped, the game would be completely dead. Not just DUST 514 but the idea of "EVE connected shooter" would be dead.

You know what the worst part is? It is just reading articles about Legion. http://www.polygon.com/2014/5/3/5677566/Dust-514-project-legion-reaction
" The team is unsure if Project Legion will ultimately be turned into a full release, and have repeatedly stated that the ultimate decision will be based on the fanGÇÖs reaction to the screenshots, ideas and footage that have been released for the game.
The fan reaction has been immediate, and largely negative."
So if it doesn't go through, CCP can just go "well, I guess you guys didn't want it" but the damage to DUST has been done. They said "we can't do what we wanted on PS3" so we (players) need Legion if we are going to have DUST, at least what it was promised to be, at all. Because of how colossally bad the announcement was, there is only negative response. This is potentially a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Images and .gifs were fun while it lasted.
