It's been like that since the beginning. PCs are far more versatile, of course, but most people don't really like to do much beyond look at the price tag and plug n play. no you twit, most people moved because they want to relax on the sofa and use a controller with a driver that works. raises a real question: does anyone know of a good controller which is likely to work flawlessly? (Avoiding keyboard and mouse). To be fair, there's no issue with doing this with a PC. Steam Big Picture or SteamOS would make that a viable possibility with a PC. Plus, you could just use a PS3 or XBox 360 controller, I use a DS3 for some of my PC gaming.
As for that PC build, even though it is theoretical, it costs way more than it should. There's no use for an APU if you bought a graphics card, and you can't use both at the same time. An SSD is an unnecessary luxury, it's nice to have, but it's a horrible idea if you're trying to keep the cost down and if you're planning on using it for more than one game (120GB of storage for an entire PC isn't going to get you anywhere). Don't buy Windows, there are better, "cheaper", ways of going about that. It should have cost the same as the PS4.
Honestly, I don't see the huge deal solely in the fact that they're "moving" to PC. The way they handled this ordeal was terrible, and people have a right to be pissed about that, and I am as well. If I am satisfied with the way they transfer all of our progress, then I'll probably play Legion.
Yes they could have gone to the PS4, but it is apparent that CCP's experience with Sony was not exactly ideal. Almost in a similar way that our experience with CCP did not turn out to be entirely pleasant. In response, they are moving to PC, and many of us are leaving Dust.

Also a ps4 has dedicated hardware specifically designed in the ps4 . Saying a ps4 is a pc is oversimplification . It uses pc-like architecture but it is not a pc. You also forgetting the fact that consoles decrease prices as well.
1. So what if they're 3rd party? There's a 99% possibility that they're going to work, you would only have issues if you are running some very strange architecture, which wouldn't be a problem for a new PC gamer.
2. This isn't really comparable. In about 2 years, PC games will have surpassed consoles. The PC gamer will have to spend $100-300 to catch up to standards, while the console gamer will have to wait another 1-3 years before spending ~$500 on a console that likely won't support their current library. I'm not necessarily saying one situation is better than the other, but they aren't that easily comparable.

There are people out there that are getting screwed by the Legion PC bit, which sucks, but most of the vitriol is over the DUST 514 keynote, progression, and sandbox presentations being about a different product that isn't even green lit yet. Big, obvious questions like "What about my SP?", "What about my AUR purchases?" were not answered and still don't seem to have an answer short of "we don't want to leave anyone behind."
Here comes the disgusting thing: what happens if Legion doesn't go through? They just announced "we cannot do what we wanted to do on the PS3 so we are moving on to the PC" in front of the gaming world. If Legion dies a quite death behind the scenes or Hilmar cuts its head off like it is a Stark at a public display, what does that mean for the game they just said could not be what they wanted it to be? Should we just fudge off and die? Yeah. That happened. Get over it.
People aren't going to just "get over" this. Some of us have invested 2 years and a decent amount of money into this game, in the hopes of seeing both the game and our characters progress. People deserve to be angry if they are shut out of seeing this investment through. It's like investing in an upstart project, then they decide to drop it and use the money you invested on a new project.

1.) Equal or greater power than a PS4 2.) <$550USD price tag for the whole package(shipping included) 3.) Bluray Drive 4.) HDMI port 5.) Small size (doesn't need to be tiny like a PS4, but small enough that you can take it places easily and without hassle) 6.) Dualshock 4 price included (+$60) Sixaxis support as well. 7.) Comes with 1 new AAA title(+$45) 8.) A decent mouse keyboard will be required for doing non-gaming activities(+ aprox. $30) 9.) Capture Card.(Share button yo!) 10.) Runs "Legion"
These next two three may be a bit difficult. 11.) Runs PlayStation's Exclusive titles such as Killzone and Gran Turismo, titles that I am a fan of. 12.) Still runs brand new games in 5-7 years without needing to be upgraded. 13.) For an extra $20ish it comes with full part failure coverage for 2 years.
If your magical box meets all of these requirements, I'll get a PC.
I hope now you guys can see why consoles are what some people want. Not trying to disprove your point, but I think I have something that mostly meets your specs.
Link
some things that might not be immediately apparent: 2. Comes out to a decent amount less than $550 after rebates 6. Use a DS3, most (current and past) AAA titles don't utilize sixaxis, Dust doesn't and Legion wouldn't have 7. Steam has plenty of sales, and I'm sure you could find another GPU that comes with a couple (it is common practice for graphics cards to come with codes for 1-2 current AAA games) 8. I'm sure most people would already have these/know someone willing to lend you some extras. 9. NVIDIA includes capture software with their current drivers 12. A console won't do this either, not up to brand new PC standards. 13. Many manufacturers/stores do this, how is this relevant to the PS4?
Don't make these kind of claims without doing your homework, you still have a point, but don't make it with sketchy info.
EDIT: Screwed up wish list link, just a sec.

Fizzer94 wrote:Question time
Say I get a PS4, because I see it as a better alternative to current PCs. 2 years after I get it, the warranty expires and it begins truly lagging behind gaming PCs as far as quality is concerned. Would it be possible for me to upgrade and jailbreak my PS4 at that point to basically turn it into a PC/PS4 hybrid monster?perhaps even jury rig a bit... It is possible that the PS4 could eventually be hacked to run Linux or even Windows. Currently, it's just a theoretical possibility, but who knows what might be developed. It is/was possible on the PS3, but I'm not sure of the compatibility with various firmware versions.
After two years of firmware updates? Your chances of doing something like that would be significantly reduced. Does anyone really pay attention to those warranties anymore? I've never had to send a product in that I couldn't easily revert to stock and back.

Csikszent Mihalyi wrote: Another thing is that the hardware alone isn't really that powerful compared to an average PC. It works well because PS4 games can optimise for the specific hardware, but generic Windows games would not run nearly as well.
I would keep this in mind.
The architectures are so different that it would be very unlikely that you would get any highly intensive software running, like AAA games and high-end tools (Photoshop, IDEs, Office, etc.). Yes, they have all the same basic components, but they all work together very differently in consoles.
