In case it hasn't been pointed out yet, the system requirements on that page are for Unreal Engine development (i.e. the editor). System requirements for individual games vary wildly of course. Not that it fundamentally changes the message of the post, just thought it should be mentioned. |

Say I get a PS4, because I see it as a better alternative to current PCs. 2 years after I get it, the warranty expires and it begins truly lagging behind gaming PCs as far as quality is concerned. Would it be possible for me to upgrade and jailbreak my PS4 at that point to basically turn it into a PC/PS4 hybrid monster?perhaps even jury rig a bit...
Maybe if you have a degree in electronics, but then what would be the point if no game for the platform would allow you to increase the quality. |

What I have in mind is to keep the PS4 working as a PS4, but have the option to switch out hardware/hard drive so I could just turn it directly into a PC with the ability to switch back to a PS4 for exclusive titles.
It's very unlikely that you would find a way to get Windows running on it, which would be required to play any PC games. Linux perhaps, but don't expect it to be easy. Also, the technical effort and ingenuity required to pull this off would probably be worth more than a brand new PC to begin with. :)
Another thing is that the hardware alone isn't really that powerful compared to an average PC. It works well because PS4 games can optimise for the specific hardware, but generic Windows games would not run nearly as well. |
