The skill tree. It screams dumbed down and against customization.

I have looked at the tree myself and how it will work I feel it is not the case. There is a desire to put in a tool to cross train from other trees when the present options are not favored and you can always go down any tree and mix the 'leaves' up. You also have the option to drill down and improve performance or go straight unlock by quickest path.
More information on how this is all done when CCP Z polishes it up; who knows maybe the intended tree to be published.

The problem is my playstyle is locked, at least by the presentation. I run mass driver scouts, I now have to go into demo logi, which I don't want.
Legion is making the sandy part of what I enjoy about dust, mud.
Its making dust into babbies first mmo.

There was a demo scout too if I recall right but then again the tree is not finalized. I mean there is room to add new 'subroles' and like I said CCP Z was optimal to use feedback it was a refreshing change of things and I wish that experince can be felt with you guys if the oppertunity allows for it.

I still need to watch that.
From what I've heard the only thing I dislike is locking weapons to certain suits, aside from the obvious Heavy weapons to heavies. That just sounds like a bad idea and should be nipped in the bud right now.

I still don't want to skill up a skill tree. This is what I hated about mmo's
If I want to do something its behind a huge barrier. In dust, oh look I only want to run scouts, I'll max scout suits. I then want to use any weapon bar heavy weapons on my suit. I can do this.
The way legion is shaping its '**** customization, you can use what I deem you should use'

They need to keep the level nodes. I want to level up a skill all the way to 5. I want passive abilities that increase as I skill up, much like EVE.
The simple fix is just to simply give a very nice description, and possibly a compare tool where a person could compare there stats as they are now vs. how they would be if they did skill up to level 2, 3, 4, or 5.
For new players they could have a 'Recommended Path' option. It will have familiar roles anyone can acknowledge. You select a role, for example 'Sniper', and when you select it, the skills will be picked for you in the tree. They will be highlighted so you know what you're investing it, these skills are specifically for a person who really wants to be a Sniper. As you gain SP the skills will be unlocked automatically.
And of course you can select skills manually.
The skills need to be non-restrictive, yet still give different dropsuits roles. It should be much like EVE. A dropsuit will give specific bonuses to a certain weapon, but won't make it any harder to skill into it.

Any word on how dropships are being treated? Will we get our Logistics ships back? This right here.

More information on how this is all done when CCP Z polishes it up and we can convince some blue tags to blog/post it. Why just not copy skill tree from EVE Online? it's perfect! even if one character per EVE Universe will happen, it just makes more sense to use one system for all games, and not fundamentally different stuff in every game. It will just make it difficult for player experience.
Why have "tree" in the first place? it's very restrictive and unintuitive. And why removing 5 level skills? So it will always will be 1 level?
I always played in all games (not eve games, but in general) jack of all trades. I liked to know everything for little, and not specialise. Don't take that away from me...
I support EVE Legion, but the message was very badly delivered...

Are they going to be posting that stuff here so we can give feedback or will they open up a new site/forum/whatever for Legion specifically? |

I think you have it all wrong... Here are 3 things they stated in the second presentation:
1. They want new players to have a smaller amount of choices when skilling into a dropsuit or role. In other words, each path down a "role" will have weapon unlocks that best fit that role. It doesn't mean that you have to be a logi to use mass drivers, but that mass drivers wil be unlocked from the logi tree now instead of the light weapons tree.
This is just an added layer of NPE so that it is easy to skill into role related items that wil make fitting easier for new players.
2. Skilling into "counters" (i.e. fittings that counter other fittings), will take hours rather than months. One of the crucial points made was that they want to make the basic parts of the skill tree (unlocking the rudimentary items) very easy to do. So while it might seem that mass drivers might take a few million skill points just to get to, you're probably looking at 100k at most.
3. They also stated that specific weapon variants will be unlocked in specific trees. For example, the assault variants will all be in the assault tree. I'm guessing that includes the assault mass driver. The breach mass driver might be under demolitions logi, while the standard would just be a straight up support weapon and be under the support logistics tree. Instead of one skill that takes 5 levels and 600k sp to max, there will be 3-5 mass driver unlocks that let you skill into the specific types you want without wasting sp on items you will never use.
Just look at the new roles tree as a very handy NPE tool. I've been wanting something like this in the game forever (I came up with the idea for some sort of fitting builder that would tell you which skills to go into, this is just a more elegant design), but it will probably not prevent any verterans like us from skilling into what we want to.
Just remember, the racial choice now comes AFTER the role choice. The whole point of this is to get players to understand what all there is to offer in the game in an easy to understand and simple skill tree. Right now it just takes too much dedication to get into a single role, and new players can too easily make the wrong decisions.
