I've been kind of quiet these past few weeks, you guys probably know why. I'll leave this here for you guys. Sorry for the wall of text, I know it is not as long as my posts usually are, and I will try to do better in the future.
Link Hang in there, Guys.

You're not alone. We bugged and pushed for the announcement to come much sooner, and it was supposed to. But well... **** **** happened that messed that plan up and the announcement was pushed back.
Don't think we haven't given CCP endless **** for this pisspoor, awkward messaging, and especially the naming of the presentations. It was going to be awkward anyways, and we urged them to just call them legion presentations and just be upfront and honest, and throw in some smaller dust presentations too for the people who wanted to see them.

For those that asked : A Ps4 version of Legion somewhere down the road is not off the table by any means. This was an absolute priority for us, because we are -console gamers- first. We recognize why this is necessary, but have always insisted that the console roots are not ignored.
Bottom line is that console development is unnecessarily complicated in terms of patch deployment and QA, which makes it really hard to rapidly iterate. CCP gave it their best shot with Dust and the PS4, it just simply didn't work out well.
The decision to move to PC with Legion was born entirely out of the intention of being able to update and iterate quickly, and keep momentum in development tangible for those playing it. This absolutely needs to happen to make dust the game everyone wanted it to be. Dust is not good, and moving to PC would allow them to make it what it never could have been on the PS3.
Of course it sucks for the die hard, ps3 only players who can't follow Legion even if they wanted to due to lack of a PC. This is a boat many of them would have been in with a PS4 port too, as not everyone has one yet. There is no way to get around this, any kind of platform shift is gonna leave some people behind, and nothing anyone can do can really make that news sound good to those people.
And finally, For those asking why we did not resign; In no way was the decision for us to not resign, somehow selfish. To suggest that is like... the most ignorant thing I could possibly think of. You cannot imagine how stressful, how agonizingly frustrating the -job- of being a councilbro is. Yes, we could have ended our initial table flipping with a "**** you guys, we're out"" but what good would that have served? It would have been an immature, knee jerking reaction. This would have been an easy excuse and saved us a stupidly crazy amount of frustration and free us from giving nearly all of our free time to CCP and the Community.
Choosing to resign would have been far more selfish. We carried on because of how passionate we are to the concept of Dust, the vision that made all of the playerbase cream their jeans years ago that was never realized. This was our chance to make sure that CCP had someone on their case to make sure they did not ruin their chance to realize this vision. This was our change to make sure that CCP had someone to say "NO" when they were sitting around pitching ideas. This is a necessary part of any design, and having those people NOT be on payroll means they have nothing to fear from saying NO to upper management. There is no fear of termination or lack of promotion, or any of the negative consequences that usually come from pissing your boss off.
This has nothing to do with sucking CCP off, or wanting to hold on to some strange, egotistical notion that we somehow have some kind of power or throne to hold on to. You need to realize that we spend the majority of our time telling CCP they're freaking morons, and that ass-kissing is about the furthest thing any of us actually do.
One way or another though... Now that Legion is unveiled, the wait for the elections has become significantly shorter. This was something we did demand though, because it would have been stupid to have candidates elected at fanfest and then have them find out that they are on CPM1 as a console player who has no PC. People running for CPM1 -DESERVED- to know exactly beforehand.
I'm not sure what else I can say about that, but you are more than welcome to ping me on Skype (nova_knife) to actually talk to me in person (Scales being the exception, none of these cpmhate alts have ever really taken the time to engage me, and I fully welcome hem to do so. You're obviously passionate about the game, let's chat.) |
