While everyone is crying about the move from Console to PC, the issues are understandable on CCP's part.
Here's why it makes sense:
The Economic Implication
- DUST 514 largely cashed off of AURUM. There was no possibility of cashing off of subscriptions like CCP does with EVE Online, because EVE > DUST graphically, expansively, and competitively. This is a basic assumption shown by CCP Logic. The problem with AURUM is that some people buy a lot of AUR and others buy next to none, meaning that CCP cannot guarantee cash flow. On the other hand, subscription means that there is a dependable, steady cash flow.
-->As a result, this could mean that the LEGION program will be a PC version of DUST, albeit with comparable graphics to EVE, better attention to detail, and subscriptions. There is also a possibility of tying EVE Subscription and "Legion" subscriptions together, encouraging many DUST players or EVE players to play "the Legion project" whilst still being able to play EVE.
The Playstyle Implication/"Making Legion/DUST a game changer"
- DUST 514 had a lot of problems as an FPS, especially since it runs on PS3. PS4, comparably, has far superior graphics and network support than PS3. So why run on the PS3?
Ultimately the switch to PC is logical; PS3 can only do so much. PC is more of a true sandbox--always improving and will still be around for quite a long time. On the other hand, PC gaming can be more expensive and less affordable, thus the community might shrink. Of course, CCP already has accounted for this, no doubt, so useless General Forum QQ is getting nowhere.
Downright Conspiracy Theory--The DUST Expirement
- This really is more of my opinion than anything else, but when we think back...
-->Why did CCP release DUST almost/a year ago when PS4 was coming at the end of the year? Why not release it on PS4? ----->As a result of this does it not make sense that we DUST players were "plotted test subjects" from a long time ago? If we think about it, DUST as a whole (including forums) would make for very interesting statistics and study on the psychology of F2P gamers and/or DUST players as a whole. There is a WEALTH of knowledge, from the critics, to the vets and new players, that can be gained. Watching how these said players interact and react towards updates and towards each other in such a game system means a lot of Data can be analyzed.
To be utterly fair and honest--we had it coming. We should have seen it years away. And meanwhile, us Console gamers are being laughed at NOT by EVE players, per se, but by the whole "PC Master Race" as a whole. You see, thats the difference with EVE. You don't play EVE on a console. You play it on PC.
CCP and their logic: Do what works and makes us money. EVE worked, and it was a success. At least it didn't die, and there are still plenty of subscriptions. So why work with the trainwreck that is DUST 514? Why not go back to a platform that works?
In the end, their logic is basic human logic. Understandable. Infuriating, perhaps, but not something to be pissed off about, unless you spent $100s of dollars and have absolutely no way to recover your "long hours spent."
In that case, the QQ is well deserved and CCP should indeed take note.

who cares if it makes sense in hindsight.... cant you admit they royaly effed up and betrayed a lot of customers?
seriously, how many times does ccp need to eff up and screw people over before you fanbois remove your lips from their d*cks?
this game makes me sad....

I actually haven't seen a whole lot of EVE tear gathering. A bit on reddit, and on the forums (but when is there not tear gathering), but mainly I've just seen shock. Not even EVE players expected this big of a bait and switch by CCP. 41 members of my EVE corp are unsubbing, and all 76 have been sending my skype calls and messages. Once the surprise wheres off, I think the gathering will begin in full, but from what I've seen, everyone has been very reserved EVE side. |

If you pay a subscription to play Legion, you are the biggest tool in gaming.
We will never let CCP live this one down.
Legion looks good, it's where DUST should have always been, but damage like this is hard to reverse, and it's already spreading. Once it starts hitting some of the news sites after the shiny effect has worn off, once more people log in to see their corps evaporating, once more people realize that all the time and money they spent into building a persistent character was just wasted on another CCP pipe dream....well....Legion better be everything we ever dreamed of, and then some.

Let me get this straight. I am not defending CCP. I'm just saying that they are UNDERSTANDABLE, they are acting greedily and personally. They're very human.
And oh, by the way. Thats my own Conspiracy Theory up there btw, that I believe in.

Unfortunately moving to PC doesn't automatically balance a game, i'm not sure what all you folks with computers think you will be getting, and I don't know what you will be getting.......
But we all know how knowledgable CCP is on the FPS front. Heres hoping they don't screw y'all 2-3 years down the road.
Because we haven't forgot what America wants. An overpriced piece of sh°t that goes fast and gets you a lot of p°ssy.

CCP doesn't understand that the reason DUST failed is because there was never balance, and they didn't listen to the community. Sure, PvE would have been nice, as would a player market, but if the core mechanics are crap none of that matters. They will continue to make the same mistakes in Legion as they have made in DUST.

Yeah, but do you know what isn't understandable? CCP's outright lies and false projections of Dust 514 the last two months, combined with their active encouragement of the player base to buy more AUR all the while working on Legion and knowing full well of starting the full decommissioning of Dust 514.
No it isn't just a "sharp business decision" either. It's called purposefully providing false pretenses in order to reap profits otherwise most likely not attainable.
Now a very angry and Bitter Vet. CCP, you have further solidified my views that corporations are corrupt POS's.

I don't think we are really pissed that there is a new game coming out, Eve:Legion, or even that it is only for PC.
It was how it was handled. They could have easily told us 6 months ago that we were on a dying game (or whenever the decision was made.) But instead they promised us quite a lot only to stab us right in the back. They did AUR sales, added content, promised new builds all as a bait and switch.
And to do it at fanfest, that is straight low bull. Can you imagine if they decided to shut down Eve at fanfest? There definitely would be blood.

Some dust players have invested a LOT of time and money into the development of Dust and ONLY that. A vet would NEVER need to buy Aur yet most still did. I myself own almost every BPO. Its ALL garbage gear yet i bought it anyway to "do my part". I am FAR from a freeloader. Thats what Eve players think of Dust players. That's what all the hate is about. You have to PAY to play, yet we play for FREE.
How much have YOU dumped into an imaginary world/game? Enough for a new car, house? FACEPALM! I feel SORRY for ANY player eve or dust who continues to do business with a company like this. What happened to us, can just as easily happen to you! |

Get out of here with your logic. Dust forum dwellers don't want to hear about anything that remotely makes sense. Also you people do realize that we all were playing a game that was free to play for most. It was basically a service being provided, you didn't need to spend money, money was only spent to enhance your experience and your fun.
If you don't have fun playing Dust, then I'm not sure why you ever played Dust. I also don't understand why you would spend money on something you don't enjoy. Longevity is rare to come by in a game, and a lesser studio would have just canned the whole project. They are actively trying to make it better with this decision with a much more flexible platform, and potentially a future PS4 release. CCP has honestly spoiled most of us. Now reality sets in guys. Sucks but it could be worse.
This sums up 100% of the forum posts after Fanfest 2014.

Well here's my thing about what you say about using a ps3. There are many games that run great on ps3 and use better engines, were able to have: large mapped battles with vehicles and good graphics(bf3), have more than 16vs16 and have better graphics(R2/others), and all of those games had some sort of pve either through campaign(bf3) or co-op(R2). Hell even cod had pve that was going to be survival for dust. Sure the companies that made these games are larger than ccp but if they could do it so can ccp, they just decide to throw in the towel instead.

Exactly. There is an obvious expense they have to choose:
Their finances, or their players.
What costs them less money? Expending their players, of course.
