Well, first of all, only players can attend the actual Fanfest, so unless his wife is a DUST or EVE player as well, she wasn't standing next to him during the keynote. She'd have been off on the SoE event.
Second, with what I know of the environment at Fanfest, nobody would have automatically started shunning him, much less the entire crowd. That's not even close to how reality works. Sounds like a scene from some poorly written Lifetime Network drama.
Also, bonus points for "everyone was looking at me for a reaction".... there were a LOT of DUST players there. He wouldn't have been singled out like that.
Third, while I understand that it was probably a blow to the pride a little bit.... having to buy a PC isn't the end of the world. I'll bet you a whole paycheck the dude already has a decent computer. In fact, he's probably tried EVE. There was a mis-speak at the keynote, if I recall, and then it was quickly clarified that DUST will continue on as Legion and characters/assets will be migrated.
Like so many of us have been saying.... DUST isn't just going to be poofed into thin air. Legion is essentially the same damn game. Just because they're not calling it "DUST 2.0" doesn't mean it's not the same game.
Lastly, I can understand feeling a little duped, considering all the previous statements... and I agree that it was kind of a d**k move to announce it like this, after welcoming DUSTies out to Fanfest. Seriously, CCP..... you should have announced this BEFORE people started buying tickets... I understand that you may have thought people would be ecstatic to hear about the future improvements to the game by moving it to PC... but the majority of DUSTbunnies are Americans. Unfortunately, my country is all about instant gratification, and VERY easily offended and/or embarassed. Keep that in mind in the future.
All in all, I call this a semi-true story with more than its fair share of embellishments and one or two outright lies. But I could be wrong.

Not exactly. I wanted to meet and chat with him about all of this and his personal situation. I checked all tickets sold for Fanfest (and looked all the details we have available, character, real name etc.) and could find no trace of him ever being at Fanfest. Rest assured, I personally did try though.

Not exactly. I wanted to meet and chat with him about all of this and his personal situation. I checked all tickets sold for Fanfest (and looked all the details we have available, character, real name etc.) and could find no trace of him ever being at Fanfest. Rest assured, I personally did try though. And what should make us belive that you did what you did? After al you have been proven ( CCP ) to lie to the hole community without eaven blinking! What in goods name would make us belive anything that you are saying EVER again?
