Noticing all the hatred towards CCP for this decision, I'd think someone had their baby burned or something with the way some people are reacting. Perhaps it's just the fact that I didn't spend a lot of money on this game, or maybe it's the level of boredom that's slowly been growing for the past few months, but all in all... meh. I had hoped this game would continue on, that it would continue to develop, like everyone else, I had hoped CCP would keep working on it until it was as epic as promised, as epic as some of the videos they showed back in 2009 were... and maybe it will be, but I have to wonder if it will just turn into more of the same.
It seems like CCP has used this game as a testing site and nothing more. We, the players, the people that have been helping fund the game, were nothing more than beta testers, paying to test a game. And now? CCP is moving on, taking off the training wheels. I can't help but wonder if they're going to crash, perhaps all this is too early and they still haven't learned enough about the FPS genre to do this, but we can only wait and see.
I personally enjoy this game, in spite of its' flaws, it has showed quite a bit of promise and the system it's based around has been fun. Being F2P has made it easier, and while I had intended to invest more into the game, both in time and money, I doubt I will now. If the game isn't going anywhere, there's no point in buying more boosters, not when there's nothing truly interesting to spec into. Tanks went from fun to meh, and dropships... well, I'll take a transport chopper in Battlefield over a dropship any day of the week.
Frankly, I can't blame CCP for this, they want to make a successful game and they have a vision for it. They're artists, trying to bring that vision to life, and the PS3 just can't support that kind of vision, but that doesn't mean they couldn't go further on the current tech, it doesn't mean the player counts couldn't be increased or the maps enlarged or more game modes and vehicles added. For those that disagree, I will simply point you to games like Crysis (Any and all of which are on the PS3 and look beautiful) Killzone 2 and 3 (Again, beautiful games with insanely good graphics) MAG (Because what other console game has done this? Similar graphics to Dust with more detailed maps, larger too, and more players per battle) Battlefield 3 (While better on PC, this game is still amazing on consoles, and has loads more than Dust) ... see the point? The console could do more, as to the reason why CCP aren't doing more with it, I can't answer that. It might be something with Sony and whatever contract they have with CCP, it might just be inexperience, but I know this system can pull a lot more weight than what CCP have given it. Back to whatever point I'm trying to make, CCP needs to move on, there's nothing that's going to change that. If they want to realize their dream, upgrades must be made, I just wish they would have been clearer about their goals, rather than putting false hope into everyone's hearts.
WTF am I typing this? There's no point anymore.
CCP, with all the hate you get, I couldn't blame you even if you pulled the plug. Putting up with all the crap from the community has to be taxing, and I honestly feel for you guys, but there are a lot of people who love what you do and love the work you put out. The Devs and mods who put up with this... you've got some thick skin, and even if you have messed up with balancing and such in the past, you guys are still pretty awesome for sticking with this for this long and continuing to try to build it up. I hope your vision can eventually be realized, even if it does hurt a bit to hear that Dust 514 will never live up to that vision.
Well, if anyone stuck around through that... you guys are seriously invested in these forums. Thanks for reading?
I guess all that's left is to spend the measly 61.5 million Isk I've saved up... or find some nice players and help a few mercs out. Shame I can't give away all my officer gear or anything else.

I agree with everything you said, just not the sentiment. CCP was deceptive. They could still make it up, at least in part, but most of us just can't trust them any longer. This isn't the first time they've crapped on the DUST community. People have a right to be outraged, upset, and to voice the frustration many of us have had, and many more of us now have for CCP's continuing inability to just be honest with its customers.
I believed in the vision of DUST as well, and I hope Legion becomes everything we collectively dreamed, and were promised, that DUST would be. I truly do. But that doesn't forgive, nor should we forget, how CCP has behaved time and time again to the console community in their quest for their 'vision' as you call it.

They obviously have been planning this for months yet did everything they could to entice as much booster sales and other micro-transactions to milk as much as they could before dumping us on the side of the road...

I'm not going to argue with it, but they're still people, they make mistakes just like anyone else. I'm just curious as to whether or not they'll learn from those mistakes or keep making them over and over again. If they come through and do something good about this, perhaps they can come out without losing any limbs, but I suspect they're probably watching the storm that's raging right now and they're worried. They can't take this back, perhaps they never intended it, perhaps they believed they really could make their visions come to life on the PS3 and were just too scared to admit it to themselves and the community that it wasn't possible. I doubt too many people can claim something like this hasn't happened to them, one lie leads to another and another and eventually, it all just collapses. No, it doesn't change the fact that it was a lie, and it doesn't mean they didn't mess up, but I still kinda feel for them, trying to create something and having to deal with so much hatred in the process.
I think all might be forgiven if they manage to come through, not just to the PC crowd, but also to the console players as well... if they don't learn from their mistakes with this new title though... I kinda doubt they're going to be able to pull through with this, and they'll likely lose a lot of their players on Eve as well.
