So lets say that youGÇÖre one of those people excited for Legion. Fair enough. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but no one to an opinion unchallenged. In this post I am going to break down exactly what we where shown today in the skimpy fifteen minute presentation, and explain to you why Legion is disastrous for the mercenary experience of EVE.
The vision Rouge talked about the vision for ground gameplay. Imagine being in your war barge with your corp, planning strategies, organizing fits and developing universal conquest. Imagine going down to planets in low-sec in between corp battles to scavenge, engage in pvp with other explorers, and fight rogue drones buzzing about the blasted hellscapes of these frontier worlds. Sounds like a ton of fun! Surely the PS3 canGÇÖt handle that though. Especially when competitors with similar visions like Destiny areGǪoh? Destiny is coming out for current gen systems as well? Interesting.
The presentation Now we come to what we where shown at fanfest. Fifteen minutes of gameplay on the PC along with Rouge commenting on what is to come in the game. It was all very ambitious sounding, as discussed above, and easy to get caught up in. Ignore it. Every word of it. Instead focus on what we where shown. Focus on the GÇ£gameGÇ¥ that was dangled in front of our eyes like bait. What did it have that Dust doesnGÇÖt have
Well first off there was a new menu screen. It was very flashy, but it was just a menu screen. There was also a new loading screen. Revolutionary. We saw info panes on a planet describing the effects it would have on combat, but we didnGÇÖt see any of those effects demonstrated or even mentioned, just like the game mode they where supposed to be playing.
Except we didnGÇÖt see that either. What we did see was five people wandering around a lava map. Sure the map looked pretty, but there where only five people playing, not 32. Or 48. Or hundreds. The textures where sorta high res, but it wasnGÇÖt anything too crazy. The one ground shattering addition to a map that could have been included in an update months ago? A tree. Truly this masterpiece needs a high performance gaming PC to be truly realized.
The point There is no Legion. ItGÇÖs just Dust with a little make up running on a PC. The game that Rouge was describing is 3-4 years away, because none of it exists. We have almost half a decade of no updates to dust coming our way while we wait for another magical unicorn. When it does come out I can almost guarantee you it will be missing 40-50% of promised features, which themselves will take years to arrive.
People, Dust isnGÇÖt just dead, we are back at square 1.

Yagihige wrote:The part about trees is really funny. I think i counted 2 trees. To think we couldn't have 2 trees on PS3 Dust maps is hilarious. Now, if they had shown a full-on forest map, i'd have seen something that hasn't been shown to be possible on PS3 Dust maps yet but so far they've only shown a current map with touched up graphics.
That's it.
Exactly. If they wanted to get us excited about this piece of vaporware, they could have shown us something truly mind boggling. Show the entire dev team running around a 200 km map. Show us the drones for christ sake, where in the hell are the drones we've been promised? They showed us 3d models of new vehicles last year. What happened to those?
They spent all there time trying to get this demo working. And they could only have it run for fifteen minutes with five people playing before it crashed. |
