Yea I'm here to the wheels fall off.
Because in the end...
It's just a video game guys
Well, I do not know of any other video game in which the developers did a complete about face on me combined with blatantly misleading and false advertising/statements after I've invested more than 10x the amount I would in any other game based upon what the developers claimed was an accurate projection of the future of said game. I am extremely well versed in video games. I've played almost every system from Atari forward to PS3 and have purchased games from all different development studios (from EA to Activision, Gearbox, 3DO, LucasArts, Bioware, Obsidian, Pandemic Studios, Retro Studios, Midway, Namco, to Ubisoft and Sega). NOT ONCE did I ever encounter a studio which made outright lies (note, I stopped buying EA games many years ago due to my dissatisfaction with their newer practices) about the future of a game I purchased specifically based upon what the developers said or the information I was supplied with by them.
So no, in this case it is not just a video game, it comes down to one company's misleading statements and corrupt actions against a significant player base.
Even Runescape, which had an extremely unpopular update with Runescape 3 which involved the removal of the old combat system, Jagex purposefully wrote and talked about it in the forums for months ahead of time before it was implemented. They also provided screenshots and detailed videos/blogs of RS3. Due to the unpopularity of it, they also maintained something called "Old School Runescape" which kept the old combat systems and gameplay, plus the people who spent all the years building up their skills, gold pieces and items DID NOT LOOSE ACCESS TO THEM EVER!!!!!!!!!!! Jagex did not move Runescape off the computer over to only consoles, or do such huge upgrades that people who played it before were no longer able to due to immense graphical and technical overhauls.
CCP claimed over a month before Fanfest that their focus on Dust for the PS3 was "laser focused" and would continue into the foreseeable future with "NO PLANS" to shut it down, and they were going to ADHERE to the original 10 year plan. Then they actively encouraged people through the ICR, developer blogs/updates, and the forums to purchase more AUR for boosters and items based upon (are you ready for it?) FALSE PRETENSES!
They knew well in advance Dust 514 would not meet the community's hopes and they were already working on Legion. Did they disclose this to anyone? No, instead they continued under the same guise that Dust was going to remain the same. Nowhere ever did they indicate BEFORE the recent AUR push that Dust was going to be basically eliminated from the PS3 with no PS4 option for the foreseeable future.
