Just wondering, since both of those are completely possible.
The PC version is the focus, but it sounds very much like CCP wants to create console versions if it turns out to be feasible. It's harder to port a PC game to consoles than the other way around (due to input control limitations) so the chances for this may not be spectacular, but given sufficient demand, I'm sure that CCP will look at this option very thoroughly.
As for char transfers, I do believe that they would love to do it, but it's going to be challenging since our accounts are all bound to PSN. At the very least though, I expect that CCP will find some way to reimburse and/or appease DUST mercs, otherwise they are not going to hear to end of this.
Don't get me wrong, dropping the news like that without having a satisfying answer to these two points is madness, and I don't understand how anybody at CCP could not have seen this reaction coming. Asking players to just stick with the product while it's essentially dead in the water, with no clear migration plans, is really too much to ask for.
I am just wondering how you all would feel about this development if CCP could present those answers.
My personal opinion is that it's probably the right plan. A couple of days ago, after trying to get back into the game again, I finally decided that I'm not going to put up with this, because frankly the game runs like shite on the PS3 (and also due to the lack of improvements over the last couple of releases, of course now I know why that is...). So for me, nothing much is lost and I'm mildly curious what will happen with Legion if/when it is released in a few years. The major mistakes CCP made in my eyes are the failed plan for DUST to begin with (arguably it started falling apart when the original engine had to be scrapped for UE), and of course the absolutely atrocious and insensitive handling of these news at fanfest so far.
I also hope that CCP will make Legion available for early beta testing ASAP, so that whoever is going to be left of the DUST playerbase is not going to be dead in the water for too long. Nobody is going to be fooled into thinking that DUST on PS3 still has a future after today's events. |

If they'd mentioned anything about dust characters and the future of dust with legion then everyone would be a lot less worried.
HELL I'm just annoyed that they literally said NOTHING about the future of Dust other than well, it doesn't have one.
They mentioned technical and "policy" issues, so I assume that it will depend on them working something out with Sony. They might require special permission, if not even technical support from Sony to transfer all account data to their own systems.
Of course that should have been worked out earlier (perhaps before DUST was even released on PS3), but that's how I understand it now. |

That should be the least of the problems really. Even if DUST keeps running past the release of Legion (which I highly doubt... player numbers are going to crumble from now on, and they weren't great to begin with), they could always just give players the option to move a character over. |

Yes it's clear that DUST is all but canceled, but Legion can still happen on PS4. I imagine though that this time they want to wait until they actually have a successful product before they put resources into console ports. It's going to be easier to gauge success and demand with the PC version. |

Here's the problem with your question. It's such a simple answer that if CCP actually wanted to or planned to do it, they would have said that like 3 hours ago and calmed this whoie sh!tstorm down in an instant.
BUT THEY HAVEN'T.
They have said pretty clearly that they would like character transfers to happen, they just don't know yet if it's possible. As for PS4, what we do know is that PC is going to be the priority and what they focus on for now, but they have left the door wide open to potential console versions.
The main reason for my question was to find out if people generally agree (or are at least okay) with the idea of moving forward by going back to the drawing board and reinventing DUST as a multi-platform title with a focus on the PC. From the responses so far, that seems to be the case by and large. So now the ball is in CCPs court to alleviate people's concerns ASAP. |
