I've played EVE for 5 years now. Officially stopped a few months ago, running a corp just became too tedious. Followed DUST through it's closed beta, just itching for information, and started up the first day of open beta. On of the big reasons I got my Playstation. Followed Valkyrie since it's announcement, I've been looking up all sorts of stuff about VR since then.
Skipped class to watch the DUST keynote, finally excited for what was to come. Player Market, PVE, new weapons, vehicles, all that jazz.
I was thoroughly disgusted. I get it. PS3 isn't going to be able to support it very much longer. I expected a port to PS4, maybe a year hiatus to get it in the works.
That's not what happened however. What happened is that everything promised to DUST is being discarded for Legion. PVE, Player Market, everything. The DUST keynote was the Legion announcement, with the afterthought of "don't worry, we'll support both!" Support both? Just like World of Darkness? We can totally develop three games, oh wait, only two. Now where back to three, all the excitement on Legion, with the little promise of continuing DUST. The little promise following countless broken ones.
I tried to bring something good out of it. Maybe they'll bring our characters over? "We don't know if we can" Guess not. Maybe they truly will develop for both. WoD and all the promises of last FanFest pretty much took that out of my head. This leaves a lot to be desired.
I spent about $30 on DUST, a couple boosters and my Syndicate. Not that much, but I wanted it to keep going, so I tried to do my part. I don't think I wasted my money. I enjoyed my time, but now I know not to spend more.
CCP, your biggest fault here isn't replacing DUST (which you are, lets be honest). No, your biggest fault is replacing it with a name, with no other information other than what you want from it. Replacing it with a beaming ******* smile at the keynote of the one being replaced. You killed off DUST without having a replacement in place. Pissing off the only people who play your shooter for the next one is a sure-fire way to get ****** down the road.
DUST is going to start losing people now, more than normal, as the community pays less and less attention to it. Legion isn't even in alpha, and this one is close to dead. Not a strong way to open up.
Maybe you will keep your promises this time. Maybe DUST becomes even better than Legion. It won't matter, there won't be anyone left to play it.
I am one of the lucky players to be able to play Legion when it comes out down the road. Will I? Probably not, it's name just leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. Even if I'm wrong, it doesn't matter. The association is already there.
Last thing to note, I don't blame any CPM for this. They had no way of telling us without breaking NDA, and they can't fight executive power. From what I've seen, they've all seemed extremely apprehensive moving into FanFest, and now I know why.
I was gonna play some DUST today. Wanted to get some fits ready for my Corp event this weekend. I think I'm just going to play so Dark Souls now.
