People are confused and sad because many feel that DUST is a pretty good game now with plenty of room to improve. So why stop developing it? In fact many are saying: what about the promises of persistent universe? But thats the thing: CCP did not set to create another MAG or COD. Through trail and error they realised that the kind of persistent universe and its complex relation with EVE they set out to create will never happen on this platform and on this engine. Too many inherent glitches and weaknesses to overcome.
So why string people along with DUST? Personally I think CCP's logic is rather sound here: Legion at this point is only a nucleus of that original longterm vision. From what I understood no one knows exactly how it will manifest or even when. I see it as an attempt to create a new road map to the persistent universe we all want, just without the limitations we must acknowledge are there on PS3 and UE3. In the meantime why should you just abandon DUST? It may take even 18 months before this new product is ready. So all they want to do is keep all doors open for you and move forward ( PS3 was released 8 years ago for God's sake and DUST is far behind modern FPS games)
Unfortunately most people are quick to judge and eager to condemn, while they refuse to acknowledge their own hypocrisy:
If DUST was good enough to play and buy aurum up till now, why can't you continue playing it in this way for another year or perhaps more? Sure, there will be no major updates to DUST but amidst all the complaining I hear that the gaming experience is much improved of late. Isn't that worth some of your money, after all it is still a F2P? And if on the other hand you feel that the game is crap, then why did you buy Arum in the first place? Oh yes, for the promise of the persistent future right? Well I remember discussions and opinions of many hardcore console players who couldn't care less about the future vision of CCP and all they wanted is a better FPS experience now. So continue playing in the now then, after all CCP did clearly say that they will continue working on the quality of DUST regardless of Legion. Just don't buy more aurum, spend what you have and continue having fun. Who know what the future of Legion will bring? Why not wait for more facts, nothing is ever written in stone especially with an innovative and erratic company like CCP. |

I played and stayed for the persistence and the tie to EVE.
Sure most people did and some even stopped playing DUST, because it was so disappointing, and started playing EVE hoping something new will develop in the meantime... The ugly fact is that CCP as a business feels they have failed their goals with this platform, and many players agree. There isn't an easy way to salvage this, if they continue pushing with PS3 they will never even get off the ground. As far as AUR is concerned, it depends how you look at it. You cannot say you have not benefited from it at all and it is only about the hypothetical fun you will have in the future.
CCP is very erratic, thats a fact, but if people talk to them instead of only raging they will find a way salvage what has been earned by your effort and money. Isn't that in their best interest? Besides do you know already when is the LEGION launch date? What if it is in two years? What kind of promises can they make for something that may happen in two years? |
