So all your time and money spent on this game was futile.
This is specifically the thing that needs to change.
Moving forward we should provide feedback and ideas for the whole game, the Dust-Legion project not just one of them.
A key element of that is to make sure that the transition from Dust to Legion is
NOT a full wipe and reset.
Assets are one thing, those will change, ISK can be earned again (even if that's not ideal).
Here however are some sticking points; BPOs - These were payed for in IRL cash and meant to last (as per the advertisements for them) these items were also included as part of the recent 'EVE Collectors Edition' so stripping them out of Legion, thus stripping them of their value cuts a hunk out of the collectors edition value which was a very recent and promoted sale. That's bad PR and damages player trust.
Further SP, the idea that there will be no skill system in Legion, and no migration of all the
hours of time we've invested into Dust is a serious breach of trust. Not only is a game without a skill system bad for New Eden and sandbox play but gutting the value of all those play hours invested is a serious breach of trust and will cause (rightfully) very hostile responses in the eyes of the community. Too many times has the history of EVE, and the longevity therein, been trotted out during the beta and launch of Dust 514, the connection presented by CCP has been repeated and obvious
"We don't abandon our games, we support and develop them for the long haul." that's fine so long as Legion really does support a true migration for Dust players. If however the actual SP and BPO assets (and honestly at least some of the ISK) is all wiped leaving only a character name then there is no persistent ace , no long term support and frankly no more real trust.
I am not the longest running EVE:O player by any means but I run 4 accounts there off and on with at least one always active for years. CCP has stated New Eden is linked and universal, as a sandbox not as separate games. I won't be evaluating my continued or future purchase of CCP products/subscriptions based on a game by game filter, I will be looking at the whole company and how they've conducted themselves on balance with regards to quality of products delivered and promises kept. The key element of that is maintaining player trust through transparency and trust.
"Adapt or die." is fine, it's actually
fun but only when our choices are allowed to remain meaningful and how CCP handles the migration of
substantive non-consumable assets from Dust to Legion will absolutely have a key impact on that evaluation.
I know for a certainty from speaking with other players (a number of whom, like myself are both EVE:O and Dust 514 players) that I am not the only one who hold this stance.
CCP, you have stated that a part of the reason for cross platform gaming was to open New Eden up to new individuals within gaming, if the migration (and information about it) from D514 to Legion is mishandled that goal could not only fall flat but result in an on balance negative effect. I'm a single voice in the community, but it seems to me that's exactly where you do not want to be when pushing towards the launch of new projects such as Legion and Valkyrie.
