I have been against many tankers and the ones that make tanking much less fun are KB/M players. They change direction dramatically and it is because the KB/M is handled incorrectly by Dust and its legion of programmers in CCP/Shanghai.
The reason is the DirectionKey = Pressed is interpreted by CCP/Shanghai to mean Speed = MAX. While the DS3 or other controllers actually will get several responses as the analog stick is moved.
Speed = MAX * Average Controller Range; And this is updated many times before Speed = MAX.
Changing the action of the KB/M should be a straight forward programming exercise, I know I am talking to CCP/Shanghai but get real here.
KeyPressedEvent triggers Speed = (MAX * Average Controller Range);
Sleep( standard nanoseconds ); Or set event timer.
If Speed != 0 and Speed < MAX and KeyPressed then Speed += (Average Controller Range * MAX);
Considering the GHz of the CELL BPE this should be a breeze and there are always these little loops or events in Dust anyway.
Make It So CCP/Shanghai
And so it goes.

You wouldn't believe the rivers of QQs from the massively entitled KB/M Kittens whenever that has been suggested in the past.
My brief pseudo coding example is easy to implement and is quickly adjustable (possible with the movement rate options in the UI). So I doubt if it will happen. However, with decades of software experience I thought it would be best to give them a pointer in the proper direction.
I know they only read post rarely and as most of mine contain some jab at the level of competence I have seen in the skills of CCP/Shanghai I suspect they might actually filter mine out.
As for this one being replied to or actually used as a basis for change ... well, this is me not holding my breath.
And so it goes.

Seriously?
Come on man, don't get the illogical feud started again. It's a control method supported by the game, and taking it out isn't a solution to issues with how it works.

This problem needs to be addressed.
Tired of kb/m users having the unfair advantage of not having to accelerate. This is very noticeable in strafe speeds, vehicle movements, and more.
Either add acceleration to the kb/m users, or remove it from the controller. That simple.

I agree. Its very easy to tell when someone is using a kb/m for movement. It also seems to screw up hit detection or hit detection becomes laggy. I say that because i have had scouts at 10 meters dancing through my hmg fire and taking little to no damage at all. They literally will run through my field of fire and not get hit. |

I have a thread on Improving Dust/Legion controls and I added the problem and your solution that to it.
Stop interpreting the Dust/Legion news from others, get it from the source: http://www.twitch.tv/ccp (then click videos)

Given Legion, realistically, remove DS3 is more likely. ;)

Wonderful. Something's wrong. Blame the kbm players.
Thank goodness this game is coming to PC.
FYI, you can't introduce those many checks to the mouse for aiming otherwise you'll have people moving their mouse all the way across their desk just to change direction.
DS3, can do CONTINOUS and VARIABLE movement input. Mouse cannot. You cannot walk, or move slowly with a KB. What needs to happen is a sensitivity increase for DS3.
kbm input for Dust is already so significantly gimped for this game, that I simply cannot support this idea. Hit detection is **** poor for kbm users. I have an easier time shooting and killing people with ds3 than I do with kbm. For some reason, the bullets only remember to hit with the ds3.
Yet in BF4 on PC, I can use an xbox controller and kbm equally well at everything cept for sniping, which is where the mouse takes the cake. |
