That will be awesome - than I can grind and grind and grind and grind. For some reason I think this is fun, but really I just kinda have no life and I enjoy the fact that my time spent in this game gives me a feeling that I'm better at playing than others.
That sense of making more and more items redundant for myself is awesome.
Don't worry though, we can separate players by tiers, then I can wait 10mins or so for a 'balanced' match - Especially if I'm I the middle tiers because most people will be new playing at the lower levels or era at the higher levels. That way, even though I'm vastly more powerful than lower tiers, I only fight people on my level. Thus I'm doing exactly the same thing I'm doing at lower levels, but with bigger numbers. I love bigger numbers because I don't understand the concept of relativity!
This kinda goes against the fundamentals of New Eden, however I'm so in love with tiers anything I say makes sense to me - contradicting myself is perfectly acceptable.
Don't forget for every G 1+X tier adds so much variety to the game. I mean there is really no reason for me to use a previous tier because it is functionally worse in every way imaginable, but CCP isn't spending time an resources introducing and balancing tiers of suits for no reason. No. When new tiers are introduced new players are given an incentive to play the game more. The game has a small playerbase because there aren't enough players incentivised to grind.
So much variety is added to a game every time you add a new version of a scout suit that is functionally identical to the previous tier, but more pg/CPU and more slots.
Because...because...BIGGER NUMBERS!
I'm glad you came around to my line of "thinking" IWS! +1

Well this debate, while very interesting - appeared to have had even less practical implications than I originally thought.

CCP will do what they want to do. Suggesting anything is a waste of your time and energy, and a greater waste of anyone who has to read its time. I award you no points, and may god have mercy on your soul.
There used to be this game called Dust - it had issues with balancing PVP along with character progression and choice. The Devs largely imported a lot of design concepts from another, previous game (the idea was the two would eventually be linked because they shared the same server/universe).
However a lot of concepts they decided to bring in were ones they had already realised didn't work out well. The idea of having tiers instead of specialisations was one of them.
It was all very interesting at the time anyway.

It's interesting though right - there is no necromancy going on here, it was a debate I was enjoying just this morning, and it was started by a CPM who would have known about Legion...

So maybe tiercide is the balance method going forward? I have just enough faith to presume CCP isn't now hiding info about canning the game in the next few months - it may, and I know I may regret saying this - may keep going until Legion is released.
They may just balance out the various aspects precisely to make it more 'pick up and play' (hopefully not too much).
Could also be why they've been chucking SP around like confetti - it may not hurt the power gap as much as one might think when new players start in a 'post-tier' DUST (and all the hardcore tryhards who live for tiers have just rage-quit anyway).
Basically they could do it just to make the game more accessible and fun for now - not because it makes developing further content in the future any easier.

Just a bit of fun in these gloomy times.

People were already pretty assblasted about other things by then though. The only thing that was announced today that I didn't expect was the move to PC. I was expecting them to announce EVE Legion being developed for PS4 while still supporting DUST for PS3 until Legion was ready for launch.
I skim read a text version of it - but, it sounded like they were talking about Legion - though I guess the whole 'is this a presentation about DUST or Legion?' Thing is pretty well established. Surprised it hasn't become a meme.
In anycase I hope it is is for DUST and not 'DUST helped us realise we shouldn't have tiers in Legion'.
