db is a gain factor and does not necessarily relate to sound.
The description for the Active Scanner which is using the same db system implies it is not related to sound. |

Edit: "Sending out a triggered pulse of high-frequency magnetometric waves and interpreting the results with an uplinked on-board computer, the Active Scanner gives ground units a snapshot of enemy positions. Projection nodes set at specific angles on the hand-held device, generate a vectored impulse capable of extracting objects from high-noise environments. Feedback from the pulse is filtered to reduce ambient clutter and pinpoint targets lacking IFF signals."
Magnetometric waves could either be Electromagnetic Waves or some Sci-Fi thing CCP came up with. Either way, Dust's db most likely does not relate to sound. You just had to go and ruin it for the scientifically challenged didn't you... I tried to dumb it down for everyone else but NO.

Yep, it's a logarithmic ratio based scale. It might be referring to radar cross section (or something similar) in this case, but is clearly not referring to sound. |

But your dumbing down was wrong, so yeah we did.

If you go have a look you're not the first to have had this pointed out to you.
I have several times pointed out the misunderstanding many are under regarding the exact nature of 'decibels', as such, I have no shame in including myself in these specific actions.
