By not being seen... Most people look for cloaked SG scouts they don't seem to notice the cloaked scout setting up the perrrfect LR perch

No, there's certainly no need to be particularly "stealth tanked" to flank. I've always been a flanker, long before cloaks appeared. Cloaks are just gravy. Real flanking is 99% about terrain. Run the right route, and you can flank in anything- I've had tons of fun flanking in a double kincat heavy pre-1.8.
As for noticing flankers and countering them, you really need to practice flanking yourself for a while. Once you do, you'll have a much better understanding of where enemy flankers may be, and how to efficiently check for them. It's too map and match specific of a process for me to outline it in text, you just have to get a feel for it.

There is a full proto radar built caldari scout in my usual squad, so when he's around I notice flankers quite often. Often they are nothing more than a red chevron above empty space. I like shooting/seeing those shot the most.
Otherwise I am always looking to the flanks, but probably catch only half or so of them using just my eyes and an adv scanner.

Well this past 2 weeks playing as a commando has taught me to check my surroundings every 3 seconds is that counts.
Its alright everyone, no need to worry it's just an Amarr scout :(
